Everyone Expects The Huffington Position

Newt and Arianna: BFF4Lyfe

I’m going to go ahead and politely say that this is energy best spent elsewhere by Arianna, considering.

The measure of President Obama should be the bar set for him by Candidate Obama. Unfortunately, the way the race has shaped up, the bar is set considerably lower. Take, for example, the questions David Axelrod was asked just before Super Tuesday. They included one about Newt Gingrich’s call for Secretary of Energy Steven Chu to be fired and, of course, one about Rush Limbaugh’s “slut” comments. That’s a pretty low bar for the Obama campaign to jump over. And if, as the campaign moves forward, the majority of the questions President Obama and his surrogates are going to be faced with are simply responding to whatever outlandish statements are coming from the Republicans, that’s clearly not going to be the most productive debate the country could be having. Given the real problems we’re facing, and the fact that a presidential election should be the time to discuss and debate them, the bar should be much, much higher than that.

So instead of simply asking President Obama to respond to the most extreme or bizarre Republican statements, how about asking him instead to respond to the boldest and most ambitious statements from… Barack Obama?

Glenn Greenwald As Lucy, Football and All

Jay Adler has a must-read post over at Sad Red Earth entitled ”From the People Who Brought You Richard Nixon & George W. Bush.”  Here’s a snippet, but do click over and read the rest:

Who has a shorter memory than the perpetual loser? Over and over the perpetual loser performs the same self-defeating act. Again and again, the loser fails, and failing, finds cause for failure in the inadequacy of others. Charlie Brown runs, as he has run countless times before, for the football Lucy holds to the ground, and which she withdraws yet again, at the ultimate instant, just before Charlie’s flailing kick. Upending himself, he falls to the ground, and cries out in despair, “How long, O Lord.”

Lucy, analyzing Charlie’s unknowing allusion to scripture, offers the final verdict.

“All your life, Charlie Brown. All your life.”

And you thought Peanuts was all sweetness and Christmas specials. Continue reading

Firedoglake: Still Trashing the Healthcare Bill

Oh for fuck’s sake.

Jon Walker, who has been desperately searching for material with which to bash the Obama Administration, is apparently not having much luck.  Last week, he dredged up the thoroughly-debunked “Obama killed the public option” narrative.

This week, he’s decided to gloat that a Kaiser Family Foundation poll shows that favorability for the bill has dropped from 44% to 37%.  Hooray!  Right, y’all?!

Arianna Huffington Unironically Criticizes Michelle Obama

Have a seat, dear. The “I’m a Progressive” jig is up.

Her Royal Highness Huffington, Queen of the Limousine Liberals — who has coyly been floating “I might vote Republican in 2012″ trial balloons  – unironically offers her thoughts on Michelle Obama… as if anybody cares:

ARIANNA HUFFINGTON (24:24): I’d love [Michelle] to be more [like] Eleanor Roosevelt right now, because the country needs an Eleanor Roosevelt who’s going to go around and at the same time that she’s doing fundraisers in Beverly Hills and Bel Air, she should go to South Central [Los Angeles], I mean, if I were Michelle Obama right now, I would not go anywhere for a fundraiser without going and seeing the places where there is pain, where there is struggle, where there is homelessness, where there is unemployment.

Against The Current: Cenk Chooses A Side, And It's Not Ours

Meet the new employee/boss relationship involving Keith Olbermann, same as the old employee/boss relationship involving Keith Olbermann.

Keith Olbermann, who came to Current TV this year to remake the channel and compete against his old home, MSNBC, is sitting out the biggest political nights of the season.

Despite being the biggest star on the fledging channel, Mr. Olbermann is not scheduled to anchor Current’s coverage of the Iowa caucus or the New Hampshire primary in January. Instead, Current’s other prime time anchors, Cenk Uygur and Jennifer Granholm, will be joined by the channel’s chairman, the former vice president Al Gore, according to the channel’s TV schedule.

Mr. Olbermann also was noticeably absent from two special reports that Current produced after Republican debates in mid-December. Those, too, were anchored by Mr. Uygur.

These absences suggest that there may be new tension between Mr. Olbermann and the managers at Current, who are trying to create a progressive-oriented cable news channel.

New Progressive Alliance: More Racist Than Progressive

I don’t have time for this crap.

After telling me to “get over being black” and challenging me to “debate like a human” last Friday, Anthony Noel decided to raise his racist freak flag and let it fly today.

The chirpstory is after the jump, but first a refresher on who these roaches are:

From The Peoples’ View:

Jane Hamsher Has a New Term for Ratfucking: "Transpartisanship"

But- but – WHAT ABOUT TEH VEAL PENZ?!?!

It’s beginning, y’all.  The inexorable slide towards Ronulism.

Jane has purchased a belt, and she has purchased some onions, but she just can’t decide whether to go with a red onion (you know — for color!) or to stick with the traditional yellow onion.  Either way, she’s about to join forces with Ron Paul and His Onion Belt Party:

This Week In Sock Puppetry: Greenwald Edition

Same as it ever was.

I’m starting a new “column” that will highlight sock puppetry and rat-fuckery in Blogistan, Twitterverse, and FaceSpace. If you haven’t read Allan’s two posts on the subject, you should do so.  They can be found here and here.1

I read Greenwald’s latest childish screed — skimmed it, really, looking to see if he could manage to write something without sounding like Regina George from Mean Girls.  I didn’t think he could or would.  Turns out, I was right:

But the news isn’t all bad for the President. Aside from his shrinking though still-vocal The-Leader-Can-Do-No-Wrong loyalists (whose mirror image counterparts stood behind George W. Bush to the end no matter what he did), Obama is finding support for his conduct in the Manning/Crowley episode from the Far Right.

Yeah, Glenn.  Because that’s what the “Obots” are.  Pro-torture Bushies.  The notion is so stupid, it’s not even offensive.  It’s ridiculous and desperate-sounding.

But the point of this post isn’t to say that Glenn is a petty jerk (oh look, I just did!) but rather to point out the ratfuckery that runs rampant throughout his commentariat.  I used to read religiously the comments on his posts — back when I respected him and his work — so, I delved in. And, whaddya know — I didn’t have to delve far.

Here’s comment number TWO on his blog (and if you read his blog regularly, you know that his comment section pushes 400 comments on the regular, so the fact that lucky comment number two was steeped in Ratfucker Sockpuppetry says something about how poised some of these fauxgressives are to unleash their “I’m voting for a Republican to teach the Democrats a lesson!” bullshit):

Vote Obama OUT OF OFFICE

I think all who would normally vote Democratic in presidential elections should be urged to vote AGAINST Obama in 2012, whether by voting for a third party candidate, or even for the Republican candidate. As distasteful as this may seem, Obama and the Democrats at large must learn there are consequences to betraying their base and their party’s larger alleged principles.

Only by learning that they cannot act with impunity because they believe their voters have no other choice will they learn they must earn their party’s vote.

(I didn’t vote for Obama but for Ralph Nader, as Obama’s vote for the revised FISA act showed me he could not and would not keep his promises and would do the expedient thing. Even so, he has been far worse than I anticipated.)

The person who wrote this comment is an idiot.  Also?  Our rat-fucker of the week.2
