Angry Black Links — Setting the Record Straight Edition

This was quite a week for fans of the truth.

"YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!"

Whether the truth was being covered up, as at Penn State, or whether it has been willfully obscured by revisionists with an agenda, as with the corporate media’s and the (un)Professional Left’s continuing hit-job on the Obama administration, people started speaking out.

As friend of this blog Goldie Taylor says, #TruthMatters.

Here’s a compilation of links to the best truth-telling we’ve read on the internets this week, along with a review of some of our own most-discussed posts.

The Penn State football program was not a shining city on a hill.

In the aftermath of the stunning revelations about how the Penn State athletic program shielded a child rapist in their midst for decades, our own asiangrrlMN took on the thankless task of reading the grand jury report and breaking it down for all of us in a seies of four unforgettable posts.

The consequences of the crimes committed by this one accused predator are staggering enough on their own. But when you multiply that by the total number of perpetrators and the many lives each of them has invaded, you begin to realize how many walk among us carrying the memories of abuse. The more people come forward and talk about their own experience, the better. Our brave pal Goldie Taylor wrote a series of tweets, followed up on her blog and gave interviews about her decision to name and confront the man who used his position as a coach to prey upon her and other girls. Our own Extreme Liberal’s latest post chronicles his childhood abuse and offers a set of helpful resources.

More on that #OWS/DHS Coordination Thing: We've Been Had

C’mon, ya’ll. REALLY!?

Just to add to my post about federal coordination of the raid, the “Obama DOJ DHS coordinated the raid” narrative has taken off.  Here’s Wonkette with a post about DHS and coordination. (And here’s Juan Cole citing Wonkette.)  Wonkette acknowledges the Examiner as a disreputable source, but then points to an AP report which Wonkette claims verifies everything ”except the specific mention of DHS coordination.”

::blink blink::

The “DHS coordination” aspect is the aspect that is supported solely by the Examiner!  Get it? The Wonkette headline reads “Surprise, Homeland Security Coordinates #OWS Crackdowns” but the only citation for Homeland Security involvement comes from the fucking Examiner.  The AP report is a generic article about coordination by police chiefs in the various cities (which doesn’t strike me as all that out of the ordinary, by the way.)  The AP report says absolutely nothing about FBI or Homeland Security involvement.  NOTHING.

Again, the Examiner claimed the following: Continue reading

About that 'DHS Coordinated' Crackdown on #OWS at Zuccotti Park…

I’ve called bullshit — it’s still ringing.

Twitter is abuzz with news that the Occupy raids were coordinated with the help of the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI, and that Obama “greenlit” the raids.  (See also this.)

As far as I can tell, the source for this claim is an article in Examiner.com, which quotes an anonymous Department of Justice official who claims that the multi-city raid of Occupy camps “was coordinated with help from Homeland Security, the FBI and other federal police agencies.”

From (the disreputable) Examiner.com:

Over the past ten days, more than a dozen cities have moved to evict “Occupy” protesters from city parks and other public spaces. As was the case in last night’s move in New York City, each of the police actions shares a number of characteristics. And according to one Justice official, each of those actions was coordinated with help from Homeland Security, the FBI and other federal police agencies.

The official, who spoke on background to me late Monday evening, said that while local police agencies had received tactical and planning advice from national agencies, the ultimate decision on how each jurisdiction handles the Occupy protests ultimately rests with local law enforcement.

According to this official, in several recent conference calls and briefings, local police agencies were advised to seek a legal reason to evict residents of tent cities, focusing on zoning laws and existing curfew rules. Agencies were also advised to demonstrate a massive show of police force, including large numbers in riot gear. In particular, the FBI reportedly advised on press relations, with one presentation suggesting that any moves to evict protesters be coordinated for a time when the press was the least likely to be present.

Is that true? Maybe. But given that this information came from Examiner.com, the proper response is “citation needed.” Why? Because Examiner.com is Fox News light. From Media Matters: Continue reading

With Friends Like Michael Moore, Who Needs Enemies?

Which Side Is He On?

Michael Moore is often dead on with his critiques of Republicans and many times with Democrats as well, but just like with his films, he often makes the facts fit whatever narrative he is trying to push.

Like many others in the “firebagger brigade”, since the election of President Obama, he spends most of his time criticizing Democrats. Personally, I’m sick of his whiny “what-have-you-done-for-me-lately” shtick and based on the actions he takes every election cycle, he doesn’t seem very concerned about electing liberals to office. If he were, he would be more careful about what comes out of his pie hole. In fact, I see his shtick as very harmful to liberal politicians.

There was a clip flying around the internet the other day in which Michael Moore imparts his wisdom to us on politics, and tells us why the 2010 elections favored the Republicans. For those of you who are aware of reality, it’s maddening to watch. It is a perfect example of the type of hyperbole that Moore employs and how he will say whatever he needs to — in order to push his narrative and thus his brand. Roll tape: Continue reading

What The Professional Left Wants You To Forget!

Can Amnesia Be Self Inflicted?

What bothers me the most about many of the President’s critics on the left is their complete lack of context and history.

When I read something from one of the usual suspects that makes no acknowledgment of either the Republican’s lockstep opposition or the accomplishments of President Obama considering that opposition, I know that they have other motivations.

When I hear Michael Moore on damn near any show he can get on, say that President Obama hasn’t done anything, I have to wonder if it’s because he is just ignorant and hasn’t paid attention for the last 2 & 3/4 years or if he is just blatantly lying for his own gain. There has to be a reason why he wants to push false memes and help Republicans get back in control of the White House.

Emilia has an excellent post about what a dumbass Bill Maher is and she goes on to remind us of what many in the Professional Left don’t want you to remember. It’s called reality.

What’s most annoying and indicative of his lack of perspective and basic common sense, is the same old same old arguments and talking points and the inevitable comparison with FDR.

Obama could have done this. Obama could have done that. He’s caved on everything financial. He gives in to the Republicans. In the words of another well-known liberal scribe, !Yada yada yada yada.”

I want to SCREAM. Continue reading

Clued in About Race: John Cole

[This post is last in a series of four posts about the Melissa Harris Perry Kerfuffle. The other posts are here, here, and  here.]

Nailed it

Last week, in response to the outcry at Balloon Juice over my posts about Michael Moore’s racist comments about President Obama (you can read them here and here), John Cole wrote a powerful post and instructive post.

While it is not in response to any of the furor over Melissa Harris-Perry’s posts in The Nation (about which I have written in the three posts prior to this one), it nonetheless should be read by every progressive and/or Democrat, irrespective of color.

He nails it, rips it up, and then nails it again:

The Professional "Whiny" Left Revealed!

Stop The Whining, Already!

If you haven’t gone to iTunes and subscribed to the Bubble Genius Bob and Chez Show podcast, you are missing out on the best political analysis around and a lot of great laughs. You can find them at their respective blogs, Bob Cesca’s Aweseome Blog! Go! and Deus Ex Malcontent where they consistently tell it like it is.

I personally look forward to the show like a little kid looks forward to candy.

A few weeks ago, they did a show called “Stop Whining”, which I highly recommend you listen to, after you subscribe to them on iTunes. But in case you prefer reading or are at work and can’t really listen, I took the time to transcribe a large portion of that show for your reading pleasure. I think it exposes the true motivations and agenda of those who have become known as the “Professional Left” or the name I prefer, “Firebaggers”.

As with anyone, I don’t agree with everything they say, but damn near everything in this portion of the show. The one thing I disagree on is the characterization of the blog post by Deaniac83 from The People’s View that was the impetus for a lot of the discussion. Deaniac83′s post about the debt ceiling deal, as I saw it, was about how that deal wasn’t as bad as it was being portrayed by many on the left. I didn’t perceive it as approving of the deal, but rather that the President made the best of a bad situation. Contrary to John Boehner’s characterization that he got 98% of what he wanted, when you look at the deal from a wider perspective, President Obama “ate his lunch”. They quickly move away from that subject and on to an incredibly insightful analysis of the “firebaggers” — who seem intent on helping the Republicans take down our Democratic President Barack Obama. Enjoy and share widely!

What Michael Moore said in response and what he should have said in response.

Digging deeper.

Michael Moore posted a blurb on his blog which I can only assume is meant to explain his/Bill Maher’s comment that he voted for the black guy and got the white guy, but which fails miserably on that count:

I was asked about Obama and how I felt about the job he’s doing. Here’s the transcript:

Michael Moore quotes Bill Maher on President Obama: "I voted for the black guy and what we got was the white guy."

Enough with the racist bullshit coming from the left.  ENOUGH.

Here comes Michael Moore with his “I’m so disappointed coulda-shoulda-woulda armchair quarterbacking” bullshit, with a skosh of racism:

So, the black part of Obama is the gangster part, and there’s some internal struggle going on and the white side is winning?

I’m sick of this shit. I’m the daughter of a mixed-race couple, and I cannot even express how much this infuriates me.

I’m sure I’ll have more to say about this, but for now I have only one question: What the fuck?

It’s not a joke.  AND IT’S NOT FUCKING FUNNY.

You owe black people and President Obama an apology, Mr. Moore.
