Meet the new employee/boss relationship involving Keith Olbermann, same as the old employee/boss relationship involving Keith Olbermann.
Keith Olbermann, who came to Current TV this year to remake the channel and compete against his old home,
MSNBC, is sitting out the biggest political nights of the season.
Despite being the biggest star on the fledging channel, Mr. Olbermann is not scheduled to anchor Current’s coverage of the Iowa caucus or the New Hampshire primary in January. Instead, Current’s other prime time anchors, Cenk Uygur and Jennifer Granholm, will be joined by the channel’s chairman, the former vice president Al Gore, according to the channel’s TV schedule.
Mr. Olbermann also was noticeably absent from two special reports that Current produced after Republican debates in mid-December. Those, too, were anchored by Mr. Uygur.
These absences suggest that there may be new tension between Mr. Olbermann and the managers at Current, who are trying to create a progressive-oriented cable news channel.
I’m just going to direct you over to LezGetReal to read Linda Carbonell’s excellent response:

Dan Choi Has Lost It, and Dan Ellsberg’s Not Far Behind
As usual, I’m watching Countdown while I work. I just listened to Lt. Dan Choi calling Bradley Manning “an excellent soldier.” If Lt. Choi’s appraisal is indicative of what his supporters know about Manning, they are fools.
An excellent soldier does not get charged with assaulting other soldiers. An excellent soldier does not have the firing pins removed from his weapons because he is too unstable to be trusted with a working weapon. An excellent soldier does not provide the enemy with information that they can use to incite attacks on other soldiers. An excellent soldier is not deemed unfit for combat because he is too uncontrollable.

After being suspended for two whole shows, KO is back! MSNBC’s Phil Griffin announced that Keith would return to the air on Tuesday. MSNBC suspended Keith last week after Griffin discovered that Olbermann had made a whopping 7.5K in political contributions without seeking prior approval. Many in Blogistan have wondered why the hell one would have to seek approval. Was such approval ever denied? And if it was, isn’t that, like, some sort of violation of something? Like common fucking sense? I can’t imagine that a company can pick and choose for its employees what political donations are or are not permissible. It’s basically the “Whatevah! I do what I want!” rule. Otherwise, MSNBC should have enacted a policy preventing all its employees from donating to anything at all. Full stop.
Well, whatever. It doesn’t matter anymore because he’s back! And you know the Malkinites and Teatwits are all pissed off, and that alone makes me alive with pleasure:
A network spokesman released the following statement via email:
STATEMENT REGARDING KEITH OLBERMANN – SUNDAY, NOV. 7
From Phil Griffin, President of MSNBC:
After several days of deliberation and discussion, I have determined that suspending Keith through and including Monday night’s program is an appropriate punishment for his violation of our policy. We look forward to having him back on the air Tuesday night.
Hey MSNBC? That egg? How does it feel all over your face?

I’m making this post sticky for a hot minute because I am too worn out by all the political shenanigans to begin to fathom who the hell MSNBC thinks it is. I like Olbermann. He’s a blow-hard, yes. But he’s a funny one and I watch MSNBC for three reasons, Maddow, Maddow, and Olbermann. (And then Maddow some more.) So, I’ll still tune in for Maddow. But I will be setting MSNBC on fire in my mind.
