"You'll never work in this blogosphere again!" – Signed, Firedoglake

Owl keel you a mewyon timez!!!

Last week I posted a piece called “Why I will never post another word at My.Firedoglake.com. It was posted here as well as at my own blog, Eclectablog (stop by and sit a spell sometime) and at Daily Kos. The next day I got a nastygram from the editor of the My.FDL site (a public site like Daily Kos where anyone can post diaries.) As I reported in my follow-up piece (“Liberal rule #1: Thou shall not cross Jane Hamsher“), they were none too happy and basically threatened me with FDL retribution.

The chances of you becoming a paid front pager somewhere have dropped significantly … Jane will never forget and she will bad mouth you to the major blog owners if your name comes up. She is a friend of Marcos [sic] and Josh Marshall and the guys who run the American Prospect and pretty much anyone on the liberal side of the blogs and you’ve made a major career fuck up.

After posting their comments here and at Eclectablog, I waited to see what would happen. There were two options: (1) Their tyrannical boss would fire them for what they said about her or (2) they would keep their job suggesting that she was okay with them sending it, maybe even TOLD him to send it.

So far as I can tell, they still have their job. And, no, I wasn’t trying to get them fired, just let the interblogonetisphere know what they are doing to people they disagree with.

But that hasn’t stopped them from trying to fuck with me. Immediately following my piece, it became impossible to share links to Eclectablog.com on Facebook. If you try to do it, you get this message:

This message contains blocked content that has been previously flagged as abusive or spammy. Let us know if you think this an error.

Obviously it IS an error. Facebook blog fan pages are all about sharing links from your blog and thousands upon thousands of them do this every day. Clearly the firebaggers turned out en masse to mark my stuff as spam resulting in the current temporary condition (which is, of course, no big deal, just an annoyance.)

But they didn’t stop there. Knowing that I write for A2Politco.com, a paying gig that comprises a grand total of ~1% of my annual income (i.e., it’s not that lucrative), they contacted my editor there two days after my original piece, suggesting that she jettison me.

On another note, I got an anonymous email message suggesting that A2Politico drop you. I dunno if it’s related to your firelakedog dust up, but the timing is a bit creepy.

Needless to say, my editor and I had a good laugh at this. Their feeble attempt to flex their oh-so-fearsome interblogonetospheric muscle was something to be ridiculed, not taken seriously.

Since then, I’ve come to find out that this whole “You’ll never work in this internet again” schtick is not uncommon. Several prominent bloggers have told me that they, too, have received similar threats. One was documented pretty substantially at exiledonline.com:

Within minutes after this article was posted, Michael Whitney of Firedoglake sent Mike Elk, author of this article, the classic Hollywood death-knell: “You’ll never work in this town again.” Whitney, who once ran a labor blog for Firedoglake until it was taken down because it was so poorly put together and drew such anemic traffic, now serves as Vice President of the Membership Board for Firedoglake. Apparently one of his duties is acting as Hamsher’s hall monitor, policing the internet for anyone not sufficiently worshipful of his employer. Before working for Hamsher, Whitney worked for–ta-dum!– Hamsher’s ex-boyfriend at the SEIU.

As I said before, this is what we are dealing with when it comes to Jane Hamsher and her supporters (“minions”). She stays above the fray and lets her lowlings do her dirty work. Meanwhile, she’s behind the scenes trying to keep the innernetz safe from the dumbest motherfuckers in the world and the bloggers who blog about them.

Liberal? Hardly. Ethical? HAH! Scummy, lame and pathetic? DING! DING! DING! We have a winner!!!

There’s freedom in being an unpaid blogger: you don’t have to suck anyone’s dick to do what you do. You can write about what you wish, who you wish, how you wish. If the firebaggers think I’m sitting by the phone waiting for Markos to call me and offer me a front-pager writing job at Daily Kos, they are quite delusional. That would be terrific, of course, but neither I nor the hundreds of other active diarists there are holding our breath waiting for that anointment. We’re happy to have an outlet where lots of people can see our work. We provide free content in exchange for a wider audience, just like I’m doing here at ABLC.

Have you been threatened by Queen Hamsher and her court of sycophantic jesters? Drop me a line. Let’s get this shit out there. The more people understand about the kind of people that run the show there, the sooner we can scrape them off the bottom of our shoe and move on to facing our real enemies, the Republicans and their tea party wannabes.

Be sure to stop by Eclectablog for more of my writing.

Finding A Way To Blame Obama for the Debt Ceiling Crisis

Ahhh, Jon Walker of FireDogLake, how you conveniently save us valuable time with your logic gymnastics so that we don’t have to go looking for a way to pin the debt crisis on President Obama instead of douchebag Republicans.

If we reach August 2nd deadline with no hope of a deal President Obama will have only two choices.

Obama could choose follow the debt ceiling law and stop sending out some checks. Following the debt ceiling law would still mean actually breaking other laws that approved this spending. This is a move that could cause serious economic problems and effectively guaranty Obama lost the 2012 re-election.

Obama could use some means to get around or ignore the debt ceiling. He could mint a trillion dollar coin or use the 14th amendment to declare the debt ceiling unconstitutional. Going this route would likely avoid major economic problems.

Using the 14th amendment to declare the debt ceiling unconstitutional won’t be so a last minute extralegal contrived plan to avoid economic disaster. It is legitimate option supported by a plain reading of the text, the legislative history of the amendment and endorse by former President Bill Clinton.

Wait for it…wait for iiiiiiiit….

A true default crisis doesn’t just require nihilist madness from Congressional Republicans, it would take a similar level of insanity from Obama.

BAM!  Post-coital cigarette time.  Not only do we have PUMA lurve with “Big Dog woulda shown these Repunklicans a thing or three boy” but Obama’s insane for not unilaterally declaring MOAR PRESIDENTIAL POWAH and asserting Bush-like “unitary executive” stuff, which the EmoProgs hate President Obama for doing unless it serves their direct present needs.

Now personally, I think there’s merit in using the fourteenth amendment here as a last resort, but the larger point is President Obama should in no way need to go that route at all.  The Republicans should vote to raise the debt ceiling as easily as they did under Bush, five separate timesand each time Eric Cantor, John Boehner, and Mitch McConnell voted yes.

The President should call them out on this and should continue to work towards a deal.  If you haven’t noticed…he’s winning. Hmm, come to think of it people who should have noticed the President winning not noticing that, well, kinda the point of the post, eh?

Liberal rule #1: Thou shall not cross Jane Hamsher – Updated

My ranty screed thing the other day about Jane Hamsher (“Why I will never post another word at My.Firedoglake.com”) brought out a series of quite interesting responses. The version at Daily Kos drew almost 1,000 comments and earned me five donuts in the Tip Jar. Apparently it’s okay to call the hundreds of thousands of Obama supporters who are the thin hopey line between the President RomneyPawlentyPaulPalinBachmannCainGingrichPerryMcCotterHuntsmanDuke and the White House the “stupidest motherfuckers in the world”. However, it is decidedly NOT okay to say, “Fuck you, Jane Hamsher”.

One commenter suggested that take my disgust with Hamsher to Redstate.com (I don’t get it either):

This is the most disgusting display of mindless hateful comments I have almost ever seen here. Unbelievable. I do seriously wonder as to the mental health of alot [sic] of the commenters in this diary.

The people who see so much “hate” are the people who have so much “hate” in their own hearts. When you are filled with it inside, you will see it everywhere outside. As above, so below.

That is just how it works.

Are you proud of yourself, Electablog [sic], for stirring the hate-pot? Is this a win for you?

You complain about a hateful comment at FDL, and then spread the hate yourself. It only shows how ugly it is here at DKos. Conratulations [sic]. Good job.

You could copy all this straight to RedState and you wouldn’t know the difference.

But wait, there’s more!

Adam Green's Dishonest Attack And Appeal For Cash (Updated)

Grifters Gonna Grift

Adam Green recently sent out a mass email attacking President Obama based on several lies concocted from a press conference on July 11, 2011. These lies were born and reside only in the mind of Adam Green, as well as the rabid Obamahaters who cling to Green’s every word to justify their irrational hatred for our President.

Green’s group, the PCCC (Progressive Change Campaign Committee), is probably the most organized group of people suffering from Obama Derangement Syndrome.

So what was so dishonest about his appeal?  How about EVERYTHING!

Whether blatant or subtle lies, exaggerations, misrepresentations or selective omissions of reality, they are lies – pure fucking lies.

Lie Number 1: The lie upon which most of the other lies were derived: Obama “came right out and said” that he’s pushing for benefit cuts in important programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

Adam Green cherry picked Obama’s statements in order to concoct a lie.  He plucked one utterance of the word “benefits” from a general statement by Obama in which he discussed the broader issues of how we get the country’s fiscal house in order. Bear in mind — the word “benefits” does not appear anywhere near the words “Social Security,” “Medicare” or “Medicaid”  (the big 3), and considering the President had addressed those issues before and after that question in the press conference, it shows that Adam Green doesn’t give a shit about the truth. If he did, he would have looked at everything the President said and not cherry picked  one word and then connected it to previous words in order to manufacture a lie.

Adam Green is using scare tactics to raise money from his vulnerable and apparently very gullible followers. I’ve been waiting for him to talk about “death panels”.

The following passage is where Adam Green plucked that word from. Of course, I’m including the context — unlike Mr. Green. The bold type is where he grabs that lone word, “benefits”.

Why I will never post another word at My.Firedoglake.com

Yeah, yeah. I know ABL already posted about this. But I gotta let this fly.

I was a bit dubious when I was asked to begin posting some of my stuff at My.Firedoglake.com. I haven’t been a fan of the main site in a very long time and I detest most of what I see & hear from Jane Hamsher. But the new editor of the My.FDL site encouraged me, saying they were trying to get more sane commentary on the public part of the site and he thought I could help with that. He promised me my stuff would be “front-paged” every time I posted. I was reluctant to do anything that would bring eyeballs to her site and bring her more revenue but thought maybe I should give it a chance. So I did.

Well, no more.

You gotta feel sorry for [President Obama]. His most ardent supporters are the dumbest motherfuckers in the world, and they don’t realize he thinks they are digging his political grave.

Fuck you, Jane Hamsher. You are the epitome of everything that is wrong with far-left liberals these days. You accuse others of hurting the cause and of abandoning “the base”, then you spew viscious vitriol like this against the supporters of a president that is clearly still wildly popular among Democrats and other liberals? These are the thousands and thousands of volunteers and contributors that will ensure we keep the Republicans out of the White House for at least one more term. The shark has been jumped backwards, blindfolded, with a flaming baton in both hands.

Not. One. More. Word.

Adding… I’m thrilled that my friend Marcy Wheeler is leaving FDL now, as well, though for other reasons. Now I can read her brilliance without having to give Hamsher undeserved traffic.

Jane Hamsher Calls Obama Supporters "Dumb Motherfuckers."

Hey, it’s better than Joan Walsh’s favorite term: Obamalovers

Keep your eye on Firedoglake, people. That ship is sinking fast. Jane Hamsher is suffering stage 5 Obama Derangement Syndrome. It’s so bad that she is now ignoring what Democratic aides have reported regarding Obama’s meeting with Cantor, and is sucking the milk from Cantor’s teat:

For the record I don’t think it’s a big deal if Obama has to take sole responsibility for raising the debt limit. But he does.

It undermines his intention to run in 2012 as the “fiscally responsible” guy who closed the deficit, and that’s why he is cussing mad. Well, that and the fact that he has to undergo ritual humiliation at the hands of the GOP every 2 months to get what he wants.

The irony is that the Obamabots are so out of touch with who Obama is and what he wants they don’t realize that by cheering for the McConnell deal, and his prowess in making McConnell “blink,” it amounts to twisting the knife for him. It makes it impossible for him to reject the deal the end — which empowers the GOP to hold out.

Cantor offered a temporary extension three times last night, and by both Democratic and GOP accounts, that’s what made Obama snap. He wouldn’t be rejecting it “even if it brings my presidency down,” and taking his case to the American people, if he thought he had scored some big victory.

You gotta feel sorry for the guy. His most ardent supporters are the dumbest motherfuckers in the world, and they don’t realize he thinks they are digging his political grave.

At this point, Jane Hamsher is a parody of herself. She spews whatever brain jizz happens to be coagulating in her mind directly into the faces of her sycophants, and they lap that shit up like their only dream in life is to play the role of Hamsher PermaFluffer. I mean, it’s downright comical.

Debt Ceiling Shenanigans: Lawrence O'Donnell Breaks it Down (and Criticizes "Progressives")

Ol’ Blue Eyes Strikes Again

Lawrence O’Donnell has been on fire as of late. Below is his latest on the debt ceiling shenannies.

Notably, he had the following to say:

Consider the lead editorial today in Rupert Murdoch’s Wall Street Journal.  Normally a champion of the most ludicrous Republican policies and strategies… they have finally caught on to what they say today: “the President’s strategy all along: take the debt limit talks behind closed doors, make major spending cuts seem possible in the early days, but then hammer republicans publicly as the deadline nears for refusing to raise taxes on business and the rich.”

If the Republicans had a plan that they thought would work when they took the debt ceiling hostage, it could only have been the misguided expectation that when the moment came for the presidential decision in these discussion, Barack Obama would simply cave to the hostage takers’ demands.  Ironically, others who shared that view as the possible outcome, here on the left side of our politics, have positions in the blogosphere and megaphones in which they have trumpeted their distrust of Barack Obama’s strength of character and his command of presidential power. As of tonight, the one person who we know is not panicking about what to do next is Barack Obama. Eric Cantor, however, has just described the meeting tonight at the White House this way to reporters. He, the president got very agitated, said that he had sat there long enough, that Ronald Reagan wouldn’t sit here like this, and that he’s reached the point that something’s got to give. a Democratic aide tells NBC, Cantor’s account of tonight’s meeting is completely overblown.

Jane Hamsher's "Afro-American" Reeducation Program Rolls Through Washington, D.C. (and Other Ratfucking Tales)

Roll out!

For those who have not yet read Dana Houle’s post about Jane Hamsher’s duplicity, you should do so. The article speaks for itself. For my part, the revelation is unsurprising. Also unsurprising? That her acolytes rush to defend her, usually with some version of the “Obama sucks” song.

I suspect, however, that while their cognitive dissonance won’t permit them to draw the obvious conclusion — that Hamsher has played them like a fiddle, spouting her special brand of Obama Derangement in order to loosen their wallets — it is still necessary to draw attention to her chicanery in the hopes that the media will stop treating Hamsher like she is some Progressive darling when she so plainly is nothing of the sort. (And when she selectively edits her appearances on the MSM in order to make herself seem more politically savvy than she is.)

I’m sure I need not remind you of Jane’s purported loathing for people who attack Democrats from the outside. You know… veal pen and all that. So what does one call heading up a company that sells ads for Republicans? Elephant Pen, perhaps?

What does one call a person who heads up a company that sells ads for Republican and who simultaneously systematically attacks Democrats (Obama, Reid, etc.), while seemingly doing NOTHING ELSE?

Ratfucker.  That’s what.

In fact, Matt Osborne of Osborne Ink and Crooks and Liars wrote about Hamsher’s ratfuckery months ago — “Nixon Had A Word for People Like Jane Hamsher” — and drew this response from Kevin Gosztola: “Jane Hamsher is No “Ratfucker” (And She Shouldn’t Be Required to Show Progressive Credentials Either) – with Updates.” Even Gosztola, however, had to recognize a bit of double-dealing:
