"UTERUS SMASH!" by @ThundarKitteh

[Here's a guest post from the inimitable ThundarKitteh about Indiana Republicans' War on Women. It's informative and hilarious.  -ABLxx]

Just a reminder for all of us womenfolk in Indiana: Stop voting for Republicans, particularly the ones of the male persuasion. No, seriously…just stop. These are not the same type of Republicans for whom your parents and grandparents voted, not even close. I know I’m writing this to you in vain, as you’ve been voting straight-ticket Republican your whole life, but maybe a couple of you have actually been paying attention over the past few years.

Now, I have no idea what is wrong with these supposed “men”. You’d think that by now someone would have reminded them that they slithered out of a vagina all covered in goo, and that they need to remember to respect the vagina. But no. See, that would require thinking. And that’s bad.

The opposite is happening. Let’s rewind to the spring of 2011 here in Indiana. For some time, a literal and figurative group of pricks had been trying their damnedest to pass as many laws as they possibly could which put various bans on abortion. In fact, there were over 916 attempts1 to do so. Want me to write that number out? Nine hundred and sixteen attempts. Somebody hates women. Actually, a whole bunch of them do. But who, oh who I ask, will step forward to be the biggest douche weasel in all of Indiana? Why no other than “Representative” Eric Turner (I have no idea who he represents, and quite frankly, if you’re a woman and you voted for him on more than one occasion, my reproductive organs hate you with an unbridled passion and if I find you, I will slap you with used tampons). Shorter Indiana Rep. Bob Morris (R-Dipshit): Girl Scouts Turn Girls into Whores and Lesbians

First they came for the thin mints…

This is preposterous:

INDIANAPOLIS – A Fort Wayne lawmaker’s rant against the Girl Scouts went viral Monday after he called them a “radicalized organization” that supports abortion and promotes “homosexual lifestyles.

Rep. Bob Morris, R-Fort Wayne, sent a letter to Indiana House Republicans on Saturday explaining why he was the only member in the chamber not to sign onto a resolution last week celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts. Continue reading

Indiana, “right to work” laws, and “Power in a Union” – Fridays with Billy

This week, my neighboring state of Indiana became a “Right to Work” state — which sounds oddly like it’s now a better place to work, rather than part of a larger, nation-wide effort to gut unions and strip away the rights that the labor movement has battled for decades to establish (and from which we all benefit, whether or not we are union members – as but one example: Planning to enjoy a two-day weekend this week? Thank a union).

Are unions perfect vessels of workers’ better angels? No. Nothing humanity does is. But I figure unions are an awful lot like democracy: A terrible mess that is immeasurably better than anything else on offer.

Eric Turner (R-Ind.) Thinks Women Are Going to Lie About Rape and Incest to Get Free Abortions Because of Course He Does

I would like to shove my foot directly up this asshole’s giant loophole.

The Teabilly assholes in Indiana are trying to pass HB 1210. It’s an abortion bill because of course it is. And concerned Rep. Turner is concerned — that women are going to lie about rape and incest to get… oh, go read the title of this post. I don’t even want to type it again:

TURNER: With all do respect to Rep. Riecken, I understand what she’s trying to do. But as you know that when the federal health care bill was going through Congress there was a lot of discussion whether this would allow for abortion coverage and of course we were all told it would not. And the bill, my house bill 1210, would prevent that for any insurance company to provide abortion coverage under federal health care bill. This [amendment] would open that window and I would ask you to oppose this amendment.

I just want you to think about this, in my view, giant loophole that could be created where someone who could — now i want to be careful, I don’t want to disparage in any way someone who has gone through the experience of a rape or incest — but someone who is desirous of an abortion could simply say that they’ve been raped or there’s incest.

(I wish I were kidding)
