A recent spoof of a painting of Marie Antoinette takes a cheap shot at Michelle Obama. That in itself is disturbing. In this case, the altered portrait isn’t just sexist, it’s racist as hell. It’s disrespectful on every level. Maybe they don’t know their history, but Michelle Obama couldn’t be more different than Antoinette. Not that those pesky facts usually get in the way.

Remarks have been made about Michelle Obama’s appearance. What the hell? First of all, how can they be so cheerfully incorrect? She is fit and toned and slender, as anyone with eyes can determine for themselves. Or, as our own Ian Boudreau (@iboudreau) said on Twitter yesterday morning: Rush Limbaugh apparently likes to imply that Michelle Obama is “fat.” And people believe him. In her interview with Gayle King, Michelle Obama noted that some people have tried to paint an image of her as some angry black woman. That’s a far cry from lamenting or being tired of the stereotype.

Marine Lance Cpl. Aaron Leeks was standing near the matchbox cars when First Lady Michelle Obama, helping sort Christmas giveaways to needy kids, moved right next to him.
Seeing an opening, “he struck.”
“She said, ‘yes.’ She’d love to go with me,” said Leeks, who is now awaiting White House confirmation that the president’s wife, indeed, will be his date for the Marine Corps Ball in Nov. 2012 .

On Tuesday, the First Lady Michelle Obama unveiled her new effort, Joining Forces, the goal of which is to enlist all sectors of society to ensure that “military families have the support they have earned.”
Retired Army Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal will advise this new national campaign to help the nation’s troops and their families.

Trading on debunked conservative talking points that Michelle Obama is a modern-day Marie Antoinette, the Daily Mail reported today that FLOTUS has spent ten million dollars of the taxpayers’ money on vacations in the past year — according to “White House sources,” of course — and that President Obama is furious with his shopaholic wife.
Yeah right.
Setting aside how utterly absurd it is to think that Ms. Obama could or would spend that amount of money on vacations and clothes, a quick read of the article reveals its speciousness:
Michelle Obama is working to raise a healthier generation of children by shoving fruits and vegetables down your childrens’ trap — under penalty of death. (Well, that’s the Teabilly take on it.)
In reality, she is simply trying to get people to understand that childhood obesity leads to adulthood obesity and maybe if we help kids understand the value of a good diet and some exercise, they won’t grow up to be a prediabetic cookie-eating blogger who refuses to go to the gym because gyms are really gross and smell like sweat and ass.
Um, what were we talking about?
