Today in Rick Santorum: 'Eat a Bag of Dicks' Edition

Rick Santorum needs to find a hot fire and ceremoniously hurl himself into it.

Why?  For Two reasons:

1. Santorum thinks that women who are impregnated by their rapist have been given a gift, albeit in a “broken way” and should “make the best of a bad situation.”  He also thinks that women carrying the child of their rapist should just “accept the gift God has given to [them].” Gee whiz, Rick — thanks for being there to tell all women what’s “best” for them.  Also?  Tell God he’s a really shitty gift-giver.

2. Santorum lacks the sort of integrity that any person aspiring to the highest political office should have; the sort of integrity that would require correcting a Floridian woman at a campaign event when she tells you that Obama is “an avowed Muslim” who has “no legal right to be President.”

The Birther Nonsense Has Hit a New Low: My Inner Obama Anger Translator

UPDATE:  Per Sugaree and Norbrook in the comment section, the judge hasn’t actually ordered President Obama to appear in court.  An amended Motion to QUASH THE BULLSHIT LIKE A BUG**** will be filed by President Obama’s attorney and probably accepted, and Orly Taintz will have yet another brain aneurysm because the lie-brul courts are oppressing her right to be an idiot or some such.  Still.  I feel better having ranted, and in the end, that’s all that really matters.

The birther crap is like the nine-headed hydra.  Every time one head is cut off, a bazillion others spring up in its place.  It’s racist, pure and simple, and there is no way to convince someone who believes the president is a damned furriner* that he is an actual-factual native-born American, so I have pretty much ignored the inanity that is the birther movement.   However, the news that a Georgia judge denied a motion to dismiss an appearance by President Obama in a local birther case** coupled with the racist bullshit Newt Gingrich has been tossing out to the South Carolina Republican base PLUS a really fucking shitty week has pretty much tipped me over the edge – thus, this post.

Now, I’m not a lawyer.  I don’t play one on TV.  I have very minimal legal knowledge, so I cannot speak to the merits of Deputy Chief Judge Michael Malihi ordering President Obama to show up for the trial.   What I will say is that I think it’s a bunch of bullshit to treat this issue as if it has any validity.   ABLC’s own Zandar has a post on the sheer stupidity of the birther movement and why the people spouting this shit need to be held accountable.   Like Stephen D. Foster Jr. at addictinginfo.org, I want the asshats who bring about these suits to pay for them – literally. However, this post is not about that.  No, this post is me summing up my inner Obama Anger Translator and how I envision said angry Obama responding to this call to appear in a Georgian court.

Birthers Stuck On Endless Loop

Whether you believe that the Republicans will self-destruct in November or not, the Birther component of the anti-Obama campaign will never, never end unless the people who continue to spew this nonsense are actually made to pay a price.

A judge has ordered President Barack Obama to appear in court in Atlanta for a hearing on a complaint that says Obama isn’t a natural-born citizen and can’t be president.

It’s one of many such lawsuits that have been filed across the country, so far without success. A Georgia resident made the complaint, which is intended to keep Obama’s name off the state’s ballot in the March presidential primary.

What Hath Orly Taitz Wrought? The Rise of the Mitt Romney Birthers

Karma is a bitch.

ORLY?

Perhaps the most toxic legacy of the 2008 Presidential campaign was the emergence of the Birthers.

As Barack Obama’s campaign took off, a die-hard band of desperate reality-deniers, led by their cuckoo queen Dentist/Lawyer Orly Taitz, combined increasingly ridiculous conspiracy theories about the circumstances and location of Obama’s birth with a peculiar hard-core interpretation of the intent behind the Constitutional phrase “natural born citizens” into a (to them) compelling case that Obama was ineligible to be POTUS.

At first, they posited, Barack Hussein Obama was not actually born in the state of Hawaii, but was instead born in Kenya, then whisked into the US and records falsified to make him an American. Because Stanley Ann Dunham and Barack Obama Sr. intentionally left the US while she was enormous with child so that she could give birth to her son in a third-world country instead of an American hospital, but anticipated that their bi-racial son born in pre-Loving v. Virginia America would someday be a shoo-in for the Presidency or something.

As people continued to point and laugh at their complex crackpot theories, some Birthers began to advance a second argument, which they found even more compelling.

Even if they conceded that Obama was born on US soil, he didn’t meet the criterion of “natural born citizen” because his birth father was not himself a US citizen, but a Kenyan. By stretching the Constitution just so and holding it over a candle to reveal hidden inscriptions in invisible ink, they determined that a “natural born citizen” could not be born to a parent who held citizenship in any other country, because that made the child a dual national, not a real American.

After Distracting You with Birther Nonsense, Rick Perry is Irritated the Media is Trying to Distract You With Birther Nonsense

He’s in ur braynez, killin’ ur cells.

Rick Perry is trying to drive you insane. And by “you,” I mean “me.”

So, remember how Rick Perry brought up this birther nonsense, destiny farted, and all seemed as it should be?  It was only — oh — like — TWO DAYS AGO.

Here’s a refresher:

SATURDAY: Rick Perry says he doesn’t know if he has seen President Obama’s birth certificate.  ”I don’t know. Have I?” he coyly purrs to a reporter for PARADE “magazine.”

MONDAY: Rick Perry, apparently blind to the fact that this birther shit is about as racist as it gets (it’s a fuzzy standard given the racist coating that surrounds the Tea Party’s gooey white center), says “It’s fun to poke at [Obama] a bit and say “Hey how about let’s see your grades and your birth certificate.” (Just as his ancestors thought it was fun to go huntin’ at Niggerhead.)

MINUTES LATER THAT MONDAY: Rick Perry calls the birther issue “a great distraction” but then says “I’m not distracted by it.”

TUESDAY: In response to a reporter questioning him about birther nonsense — the very same nonsense that he himself raised merely two days prior — Rick Perry says:

“You know, I’ll cut you off right there. That is one of the biggest distractions that there is going. We need to be talking about jobs. Somebody wants to see my birth certificate, I’d be happy to show it to ‘em. But the fact is, that is a distraction, and Americans really don’t care about that, if you want to know the truth of the matter. What Americans want to talk about is jobs. Who is going to lay out a plan, which will get America working again.”

Rick Perry Does Not Care About The Poors™ or The Blacks™

Rick Perry is talking again.  And he’s saying stupid shit… again.

(Ben Torres/AP)

From Kevin Drum:

From Rick Perry, after John Harwood of the New York Times notes that his tax plan will mean huge tax cuts for the rich in an era of already skyrocketing income inequality:

But I don’t care about that.

I suppose there’s something oddly refreshing about that response. There’s also this:

Q. Why did you choose to keep the birther issue alive?

A. It’s a good issue to keep alive. You know, Donald [Trump] has got to have some fun. It’s fun to poke him a little bit and say “Hey, let’s see your grades and your birth certificate.” I don’t have a clue about where the president — and what this birth certificate says. But it’s also a great distraction. I’m not distracted by it.

Yes, the birther issue is just a spot of fun!***

An Open Letter of Grief: After the Thunder Comes the Rain

Yesterday, I wrote a diatribe to the MSM about my fury at having to watch the President of the United States present his free papers to Donald Trump and the birthers.  I was righteous as I pulled my rusty pitchfork out of the garden shed and went to town on the MSM. Oh, it felt good to have the fury burn through me.

Underneath all that anger, however, was a deeper emotion. One that was much harder to reveal: Pain. Grief. An almost-unbearable heartbreak. Watching the President of the United States justifying his citizenship hurt me in a visceral way. There is a thread over at Balloon Juice comparing the way Obama’s been treated to the way Clinton was treated. The basic message was, Democratic presidents have always had to deflect vicious criticism, rumors, and lies. A few people of color tried to explain why this was different while also acknowledging that yes, all Democratic presidents have been demonized.  Here is my comment as a few people vocally appreciated it in that thread and the thread above it:

Republicans will delegitimize any Democratic president. This is true. It’s just, for those of us not white, talking about the racism THIS president faces as tangential or just another tactic or part of the same-old same-old does not sit well. As I explained to a friend last night, it’s personal. The most accomplished black manin this fucking country had to show his fucking papers. A thoroughly mediocre, stupid, and loathsome white man who would have been slinging burgers and asking if you want fries with that were it not for his good fortune of being born to an incredibly rich man is PROUD to question this president about his (Obama’s) heritage, grades, and whatever. And, the fucking media are only too happy to lap it up without calling it for what it really is.

Yesterday was heartbreaking and infuriating at the same time for many people of color. I think that is what is being overlooked in this thread.

I had a few immediate responses, and I made a second comment to clarify my thoughts.  To my surprise, I was in tears–and not for the first time since Obama released his LFBC. In that second  comment, I said that while I DO know all Democratic presidents have been attacked, demonized, and discredited, this hurt in a purely personal way. Therefore, I can’t focus on the bigger picture of how this is yet one more attack on a Democratic president using race as chum. So, I stepped out of the thread.

Heartbroken at the Suffocating Racism and Outraged at the Apologists

This.

Of today’s events — Obama’s release of his long-form birth certificate and Trump’s gloating response — Baratunde Thurston (Jack Turner) of Jack & Jill Politics writes:

It was during my viewing of this video [Trump's remarks in New Hampshire] that I began to cry. I thought of my ancestors, both direct and collective, who had fought and died so that I might be treated as an American. I then thought of this fetid, smug, hate-filled, wealthy white man taking credit for the release and yet still not being satisfied. It does not matter how long we’ve been in these United States. We will never be American.

So, tears in my eyes, pain in my heart and rage in my soul, I composed this video message. More than written text, it comes close to expressing my full pain at witnessing a white man who was handed everything call the President of the United States (and me) a nigger.

Here’s the video he recorded:

It hurts more than I thought it would. I’m taking it more personally than perhaps seems rational, but I feel sucker-punched.

Dear Media: Fuck You with my Trusty Rusty Pitchfork; An Open Letter to the MSM

Dear (Un)Professional Media:

Hi.

My name is asiangrrlMN. I am a lefty blogger at the highly-esteemed blog, Angry Black Lady Chronicles. I am not Black or a Lady, but I am definitely Angry, and today? My ire is aimed directly at you. Because, you all fucking suck, first of all. You’re all about your fucking ratings and making sure that you don’t upset the status quo. You will report on shit like the Kardashians (the fact that I even fucking know who they are kills my soul a little bit) and the stupid British wedding (note, we are Americans. We fought against the British purportedly to get away from all this monarchy bullshit*) and all the other mundane bullshit that passes for news these days.

Confession time:  I have very little use for you.  I don’t watch any news, cable or broadcast, and I read very little old-timey news, either in paper form (none) or on the web (very very little).  I read blogs I trust, and when they direct me to the latest chicanery of the day by the MSM, I sometimes click on the link with great reluctance.   This means I don’t watch ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, or any other so-called news network.  I used to watch Rachel, but I haven’t done that in months, either.  I rather imbibe my news by reading about it because I get to control the pace of the information download, and I find TV news to be seriously broken.

That said, I don’t live in a complete vacuum.  I know what the MSM is babbling about most days, and my disgust has grown quantum leaps in the past few weeks since Donald Trump declared that he might declare, but he might not.  But, at any rate, he’s a smart guy who, you know, is such a success**, and, you know, he’s not sure the president was born in this country.

Stop.  Stop right there.  This is one of my conversation-stoppers.  If someone says s/he isn’t sure whether President Obama was born in this country, that person loses all credibility with me.  As a terrorist anchor baby*** myself, I take much exception to this entire line of questioning and to the nerve of people demanding the president produce proof of his birth (beyond the birth certificate he’s already shown). If someone wants to make a ridiculous claim, it’s up to that person to prove his/her claim, not to the person being accused to prove it’s not true–which isn’t fucking possible, anyway.  You can’t prove a negative.
