Asshats have only themselves to blame for the Do-Nothing reputation of the 112th Congress

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell recently accused the Obama Administration of “explicitly” trying to “make people believe that Congress can’t get anything done” by pushing legislation the president knows won’t receive the Republican support needed for passage.

In yet another spot-on critique, the Washington Monthly’s Steve Benen analyzes the “chutzpah” of McConnell’s claim by citing examples when the Kentucky Republican himself has shamelessly confessed to employing a strategy of unified Republican opposition to essentially every policy Democrats and President Obama have proposed.

Beyond blatantly admitting that making Obama a one-term president is the No. 1 goal of the Republican Party, McConnell has given further explanation of the GOP’s strategy not only to unseat the president, but to rally Americans against the Democratic Party. It calls for unified opposition to any and every policy Obama proposes – including those the party has previously supported – because unified Republican opposition, even if it is only symbolic, has the effect of “shifting American public opinion” against the Democratic agenda and “necessarily mak(ing) Democratic ideas less popular,” as Benen puts it.

“McConnell’s willingness to blame the president for McConnell’s own deliberate strategy is plainly insane,” Benen states.

I would add that the long list of partisan bills Republicans have pushed in the last 10 months is a far greater factor in shaping public sentiments about how “Congress can’t get anything done” than any policy the president has proposed.

Rick Perry's Jeremiah Wright: White People Gave Black People Rights; Civil Rights Leaders Deserve No Credit

When my head stops exploding, I’ll let you know.

Rick Perry is skipping this weekend’s celebration and unveiling of the new MLK memorial in Washington, D.C. (No surprise there.)

Instead, Perry will be heading to Fredericksburg, Texas to attend a “call to action” retreat/fundraiser, where he will hobknob with religious nutbag and self-styled historian David Barton.

From Joy-Ann Reid at The Grio:

Barton was among a group of Texas conservatives who in 2010 sought to revise that state’s textbooks to promote their view that the notion of a constitutional separation of church and state is a myth, and that students should be taught a version of American history that blends theology with themes of a constant clash of civilizations between Christians and Muslims.

According to a Washington Monthly article in January 2010, Barton, the former head of the Texas Republican Party, and Peter Marshall, who the article described as “a Massachusetts-based preacher who has argued that California wildfires and Hurricane Katrina were God’s punishment for tolerating gays,” had even more ideas in mind when they testified before the Texas Education Assembly. Per the Washington Monthly:

Glenn Beck: Black People Will Riot if Obama Is Not Re-Elected

If we’re rioting, I need at least two weeks advanced notice.

This black person had planned to move to New Zealand if Obama isn’t reelected, but I suppose I could be down for some light rioting:

“I firmly believe that race riots are on the way. They are being encouraged. Remember when Bill Clinton left office and remember they took all the Ws out of the keyboard and they defaced parts of the White House? What do you think these people are gonna do? What do you think this administration — this administration won’t worry about the White House. They will take this country down. If it looks like they are losing, the uber left, they will take it down. If I can’t have it, no one will. ”

As long as the rioting doesn’t occur before noon or last past five. I’m on a schedule, here.

Oh, now would be a good time to plug Elon James’ latest hilarious effort, The How to Guide for Understanding Rioting Negroes. There are a lot of helpful tips there, so study up.

Here's what a "New Progressive" just said to me…

In case there’s any remaining doubt as to what these people stand for.

Remember the New Progressive Alliance?  With their find a primary candidate on Craigslist shenanigans, and their help Afro-Americans understand that Obama is Teh Worst?

Any questions?

Open Thread.

UPDATE: For some reason, he continues to keep digging:

Fox News Compares Number of Calories in Michelle Obama’s Meal to "Eating a Live Raccoon"

I can’t stop laughing.

I’m sitting here watching The Daily Show, and the moment of zen clip features some assclown on Fox News1 stating that Michelle Obama was seen ordering a burger, fries, and a shake, and then likened the number of calories she ingested to eating a live raccoon.

::spittake::

I’ve been sitting here alternatively laughing and scratching my head — trying to understand how the hell one would know the number of calorie in eating a live raccoon.

Sarah Palin Visited the "Statute" of Liberty

Brains Wide Shut.

Unless you’ve been trapped under something heavy for the past few days (or are sensible and have given up trying to follow the goings-on of Our Lady of Meese Hunting), you are likely aware that the “Rootin’ Tootin’ I Can See Putin” Sarah Palin Commemorative Family Vacation Slash Bus Tour is underway — and to hilarious effect.

But before we keep on bussin’, y’all, let’s get one thing clear: Sarah Palin is not running for President. I repeat: Sarah Palin is not running for President.

She’s smart enough to know how stupid she is. She’s smart enough to know that Obama would figuratively wipe the debate floor with her ass.

She’s also smart enough to know that she does not have the intellectual wherewithal to spend the time required to be able to answer such hard-hitting questions as: “Which newspapers do you read?”

Trump/Huckabee 2012? How about “Fire/Molotov Cocktail 2012??

So, just to be clear where we are as a country…

Just another Orange Supremacist

This fuckin’ guy (who, by the way, has the writing skills of a… of a… of a person who doesn’t have great writing skills) –

To the Editor:

Re “Donald Trump Gets Weirder,” by Gail Collins (column, April 2):

Even before Gail Collins was with the New York Times, she has written nasty and derogatory articles about me. Actually, I have great respect for Ms. Collins in that she has survived so long with so little talent. Her storytelling ability and word usage (coming from me, who has written many bestsellers), is not at a very high level. More importantly, her facts are wrong!
