NH House Republicans Pass Bill Banning Abortion After 20 Weeks

Here’s some news on the New Hampshire Forced Birth front.

New Hampshire House Republicans just passed HB 1660, which makes it a felony for abortion providers to perform abortions after twenty weeks of pregnancy, based upon the entirely unproven and inconclusive assertion that fetuses feel pain:

CONCORD, N.H.—For the fifth time in two weeks, the House passed a bill intended to restrict abortions in New Hampshire, voting Thursday to prohibit abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Abortion providers would face felony charges punishable by up to 15 years in prison for violating the proposed law, although the mother would not be prosecuted.

Kansas House GOP Passes ‘Abortion Conscience’ Bill

Kansas’s war on women marches on.

SB62 immunizes doctors and medical care facilities from liability for refusing to provide any care or prescribe any drug that might lead to abortion if those doctors or medical facilities have a moral objection to abortion or birth control:

TOPEKA, Kan. (WTW) — A bill designed to give Kansas health care providers greater legal protections if they refuse any involvement in abortion moved Wednesday toward passage in the state House, despite concerns that it could lessen access to birth control.

~snip~

Kansas already has laws that say no person or hospital can be forced to participate in abortions or sterilizations or be penalized for refusing. This year’s measure extends “conscience” protections to health care facilities other than hospitals and says providers couldn’t be required to refer patients for abortion care or to prescribe or dispense abortion-inducing drugs.

Pro-Planned Parenthood Texas State Senator Wendy Davis’s Office Firebombed

“WE ARE IN A FUCKING CRISIS IN TEXAS.” -@scATX

FORT WORTH — Police are trying to identify the man who entered the West 7th office of State Sen. Wendy Davis Tuesday afternoon and threw two firebombs just outside the door.

Two staffers were in the third floor office when the attack occurred around 4 o’clock. One of them had to leap over the flames to escape, then went to the break room, grabbed an extinguisher and put out the fire.
Investigators said Sen. Davis was not in the office at the time of the incident, but was at her law office closer to downtown Fort Worth.

A staffer told News 8 the Democratic lawmaker was alerted about what happened and that security at Davis’ other local office was tightened as a result.
No one was hurt, but the lawmaker’s office was damaged by the fire.

It’s unclear yet whether or not the firebombing of Senator Davis’s office is connected to her advocacy for women’s health and pro-Planned Parenthood stance, but it sure feels that way to me and to the pro-choice women in Texas:

Arizona Rep. Terri Proud (R-WTF): Women Should Be Forced to Watch an Abortion Before Having One

*blank stare*

This is just getting out of hand:

Personally I’d like to make a law that mandates a woman watch an abortion being performed prior to having a “surgical procedure”. If it’s not a life it shouldn’t matter, if it doesn’t harm a woman then she shouldn’t care, and don’t we want more transparency and education in the medical profession anyway? We demand it everywhere else.

Until the dead child can tell me that she/he does not feel any pain – I have no intentions of clearing the conscience of the living – I will be voting YES.”

So now we’re traumatizing women just for shits and giggles?  Is that it?  These people want every woman to be as traumatized as Carolyn Jones was when Texas forced her to undergo an unnecessary ultrasound?  What is wrong with these people?

Alaska Rep. Alan Dick (R-Dick): Women Need Paternal Permission for An Abortion

WTF.

State Representative Alan Dick (the jokes write themselves) doesn’t think that a woman’s pregnancy is really “her pregnancy” and would have “a little more peace” about this nasty abortion business if the impregnator was required to consent to the impregnatee’s decision to terminate the pregnancy.

[I]f you’re not fully convinced yet that Alaska is the next front in the GOP’s war on women, you just have to listen to State Rep. Alan Dick. He said that he doesn’t believe that when a woman is pregnant, it’s really “her pregnancy.” As a matter of fact, he would advocate for criminalizing women who have an abortion without the permission via written signature from the man who impregnated her. He stated, “If I thought that the man’s signature was required… required, in order for a woman to have an abortion, I’d have a little more peace about it…”

No word on exactly how much more peace Dick would have about it. My guess is not much.

#WarOnWomen: Arizona Close to Defunding Planned Parenthood

And the War on Women marches on.

The Arizona Senate Committee on Healthcare and Medical Liability Reform approved HB 2800 which strips state funding from any group (like Planned Parenthood) that performs abortion even though existing state law and the fucking Hyde Amendment already prohibit the use of state/federal funds for abortion.

The Texas Sonogram Law Is Traumatic and Horrifying for Women: One Woman’s Ordeal

‘We Have No Choice’: One Woman’s Ordeal with Texas’ New Sonogram Law

This is what government intrusion on a woman’s choice has wrought.  It’s heartbreaking.

Halfway through my pregnancy, I learned that my baby was ill. Profoundly so. My doctor gave us the news kindly, but still, my husband and I weren’t prepared. Just a few minutes earlier, we’d been smiling giddily at fellow expectant parents as we waited for the doctor to see us. In a sonography room smelling faintly of lemongrass, I’d just had gel rubbed on my stomach, just seen blots on the screen become tiny hands. For a brief, exultant moment, we’d seen our son—a brother for our 2-year-old girl.

Oklahoma Democrat Proposes Vasectomy Amendment

Oklahoma state senator Constance Johnson is awesome.  First, she attempted to attach an “every sperm is sacred” amendment to Oklahoma’s Personhood Bill. (That bill is currently tied up in court.)

Last week, Senator Johnson tried to derail the fetal heartbeat bill (SB 1274 “Heartbeat Informed Consent Act”) by attaching a vasectomy amendment to it.  Although the amendment was rejected, I’m posting about it because the bill language is amazing:
