Pro-Planned Parenthood Texas State Senator Wendy Davis’s Office Firebombed

“WE ARE IN A FUCKING CRISIS IN TEXAS.” -@scATX

FORT WORTH — Police are trying to identify the man who entered the West 7th office of State Sen. Wendy Davis Tuesday afternoon and threw two firebombs just outside the door.

Two staffers were in the third floor office when the attack occurred around 4 o’clock. One of them had to leap over the flames to escape, then went to the break room, grabbed an extinguisher and put out the fire.
Investigators said Sen. Davis was not in the office at the time of the incident, but was at her law office closer to downtown Fort Worth.

A staffer told News 8 the Democratic lawmaker was alerted about what happened and that security at Davis’ other local office was tightened as a result.
No one was hurt, but the lawmaker’s office was damaged by the fire.

It’s unclear yet whether or not the firebombing of Senator Davis’s office is connected to her advocacy for women’s health and pro-Planned Parenthood stance, but it sure feels that way to me and to the pro-choice women in Texas:

#WarOnWomen: Arizona Close to Defunding Planned Parenthood

And the War on Women marches on.

The Arizona Senate Committee on Healthcare and Medical Liability Reform approved HB 2800 which strips state funding from any group (like Planned Parenthood) that performs abortion even though existing state law and the fucking Hyde Amendment already prohibit the use of state/federal funds for abortion.

‘God Hates Fags’ Church Preparing Ad for Oink Limbaugh Show

The Southern Poverty Law Center reports that Fred Phelps  and the bigoted wackaloons at Westboro Baptist Church are fixin’ to advertise on the Rush Limbaugh Show, if Oink will have them:

Guess who’s knocking on Rush Limbaugh’s door as his advertisers flee like rats from a sinking ship? It’s the people behind the infamous GodHatesFags website — the Westboro Baptist Church, the most notorious gay-bashing group in America — and they’re ready to step in to keep the embattled Limbaugh on the air.

Further to My Point About the Arizona Bill Which Would Allow Employers To Fire Women for Using Birth Control

Having been accused of vagina “fauxrage” in response to my post yesterday about Arizona’s crazy-ass bill which would permit employers to fire women for being slutty birth control users, I feel compelled to make a counterargument.

Actually, I’ll let Susie Madrak at Crooks & Liars make that counterargument for me:

When I was 18, I worked for a publishing company that was a little bit strange. The female department head was a fundamentalist Christian and a member of Jews for Jesus who used to hold Tuesday morning prayer meetings before work. It was well known that if you never did attend a prayer meeting, you could forget about ever getting a raise.

Arizona Law Would Allow Employers to Fire Women for Using Birth Control [updated]

Dude naw.

Some nutbag in Arizona — a woman, no less — authored a bill that would allow employers to interrogate their female employees about their sexual practices.

No seriously.

You might want to sit down for this one, actually.

Ready?

It’s Not Kucinich’s Wackiness, It’s His Fecklessness

Kucinich june07Greenwald’s latest post is a love song for Dennis Kucinich.  Essentially, Greenwald argues that Kucinich has been a staunch advocate against executive power, drones, and secret wars, and that “establishment Democrats” ignore these principled stances in favor of mockery, derision and scorn  for Kucinich’s New Age/alien talk.

I suppose that’s one way to look at it.  But here’s another way:  Kucinich’s voting record stinks and he’s a terrible Democrat.

Personally, I don’t care about the alien/New Age talk (except to the extent that such talk made him unelectable by the public at large).  What I care about is his record on reproductive rights — it’s terrible.  Ultimately, Kucinich is a pro-life Catholic who flip-flopped to pro-choice in order to win elections, and I’m simply not cool with that.

Oink Limbaugh Demands that Sandra Fluke Post Sex Tapes Online

Limbaugh is so disgusting that he’s not worthy of my contempt.

As such, I write this post only to demonstrate how deliberately manipulative (and wantonly dickish) he is, having managed to convince right-wing assclowns like Patricia Heaton (who knew she was such an asshole?) that Fluke wanted birth control to have more sex, when in actuality she was relaying the story of a friend who needed birth control to manage a medical condition.

But whatever. Facts don’t matter because GIRLZ HAB BAJINAS LOL:

[O]n his radio show today, Limbaugh showed no remorse and instead reveled in the attention. Referring to Fluke, Limbaugh demanded that women post sex tapes online if they use insurance-covered birth control:

LIMBAUGH: So Miss Fluke, and the rest of you Feminazis, here’s the deal. If we are going to pay for your contraceptives, and thus pay for you to have sex. We want something for it. We want you post the videos online so we can all watch.

#WaronWomen: Pennsylvania State-Sanctioned Rape Law is Most Cruel Yet

Pennsylvania is going all-in on the War on Women.  Like Alabama, it requires your urgent attention. HB 1077 faces a full vote in mid-March.  Call or email Governor Corbett.  Sign this petition.  (Pennsylvanianians, search for and call your representative.)

Yes, I mixed my metaphors, but do you really want me to make an “all-in/poker/vagina” joke? I didn’t think so. Let’s just cut right to the chase, shall we?

From Raw Story:

Even as the transvaginal ultrasound bill in Virginia was causing national outrage, Pennsylvania conservatives were quietly pushing a even more restrictive abortion bill. The legislation is designed with so many difficult and differing restrictions that long-time abortion policy analyst Elizabeth Nash at the Guttmacher Institute told Raw Story, “I’ve never seen anything like it.” Continue reading

Personhood Bill Killed: Another Victory for Virginian Vaginas and the Uterati™ (for now)

This just in

Virginia’s Personhood bill was killed in the Senate today:

The Virginia state Senate voted Thursday to postpone a decision on the controversial ultrasound bill that had passed out of Committee earlier today. The latest version, which requires women to undergo a transabdominal ultrasound before they can get an abortion, will likely be taken up tomorrow. The Senate also voted to send a bill back to Committee that would have defined “personhood” as beginning at the moment of conception, which effectively kills the bill until 2013.

Nobody expects the vaginal inquisition.

This is why we fight and make our voices heard.  Celebrate this victory and then keep on fighting.  Republicans still are trying to set up shop in your uterus, so we mustn’t become complacent.  But still — this is great news. Continue reading
