Michigan Dems, Don’t Play Dirty Politics

Sometimes you’ve got to “get down in the mud with the fucking elephants.”

Sometimes you don’t.

The Michigan primary race is one of the latter.

On Feb. 15, 2012, DailyKos.com founder Markos Moulitsas Zúniga launched “Operation Hilarity,” a grassroots, web-based political campaign that encourages Democrats to vote for Rick Santorum in states such as Michigan, whose open primaries allow crossover voting.

The goal of Operation Hilarity: To “keep the GOP clown show going!” by boosting Santorum’s support, denying presumed nominee Mitt Romney key victories, and dragging out a nomination fight that has already done immeasurable harm to the Republican Party while simultaneously boosting President Obama’s re-election odds.

The result of Operation Hilarity: Democrats looking like Republicans for trying to rig an election.

Cal Thomas, Retire Already: Part III

Conservative Columnist Co-opts Black History Month to Honor Republicans

As Black History Month draws to a close, world-renowned conservative columnist Cal Thomas wants to remind liberals everywhere who are too stoned to remember basic American history that the Republican Party really really really loves black people.

Or at least they did at one time.

Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves, Thomas informed us this week in his syndicated column, “Black (Liberal) History Month.” A Republican-led Congress supported the Emancipation Proclamation and the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments. Republicans in the 38th Congress passed legislation creating the “Negro Calvary,” also known as Buffalo Soldiers, in the 1860s. And Ulysses “Snowflake” Grant, a Republican, signed the Civil Rights Act of 1875, which allowed blacks access to public accommodations—until it was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.

There’s a not-so-subtly-buried trend within this unflatteringly short list of historical “moments” when Republicans fought for African Americans: they all happened a long, long time ago—before even Thomas was born.

Bill Maher Steps Up; Donates $1 Million to Obama SuperPAC

Looks like Bill Maher may have had a “holy crap the Republicans are nuts” epiphany. From Mediaite:

While performing his “StupidCrazyPolitics” show at the San Jose Center For The Performing Arts in San Jose, CA Thursday night, comedian and HBO host Bill Maher announced he would be donating $1 million to Priorities USA Action, a pro-Barack Obama Super PAC.

The moment was broadcast by the Yahoo! Screen Comedy Channel as part of its inaugural Screen Live Standup Series.

Bill Maher has pissed me off in the past. But if he’ll agree to retire all jokes about “voting for the black guy” and “gangsta presidents” then I’ll agree not to try to set him on fire with my brain. I don’t hold grudges. Besides, I’m too busy trying to keep the Republicans from crawling all up inside my lady business. I don’t have time to hold grudges. Continue reading

President Obama Sings Sweet Home Chicago with B.B. King (w/ video)

I’m going to need him to guest star on American Idol or something. These little snippets of PBO singing is just not enough for me!  MOAR SINGING is what the people want.

You’re welcome.

Yo, The Stimulus Worked — Thank You President Obama!

Common refrains from people who say it didn’t work:

  • But Obama promised that unemployment would be less than 8%. Horseshit on a stick. First, he didn’t “promise” a damn thing, if everything an incoming president says is turned into a “promise”, well then there has been a whole lot of promise breaking going on in our history. Second, the cautious prediction made during the transition was based on the numbers that the outgoing Bush administration was feeding the Obama team. They were flat out wrong and completely underestimated what was going on in our economy. Hey media, that’s called context. Buy some at the local C-store.

Chimichanga Nation: Messina is a big bigoty Latino insulter

The most viewed and most discussed “news” article in The Hill on Thursday was titled, “GOP demands apology for Obama campaign manager’s ‘chimichanga’ tweet.

So much for focusing on “the issues” this election season.

Republicans are demanding an apology Wednesday from President Obama’s campaign manager after a tweet that they argue was insulting toward Latino Americans.

In case you’re feeling special, the answer is no: you were not the only one to recognize the irony of the Republican Party “demanding” anything as reparation for offending Latino voters.

A day in the life of the GOP. And American women.

Over on TPM, Evan McMorris-Santoro sums up the day on which the GOP decided it was time to time-travel back at least sixty years, and drag us all along with them for the trip.

Today. That day was today:

There you have it: modern women being told by Republicans that they’re not qualified to talk about their own sexual health, are dressed like “whores” and probably need birth control because they’re so slutty. And this is just in one day.

For details, click here. But hold on tight, because that time machine moves fast.

And here you were worrying that I was being overly optimistic in my earlier postTch.

The GOP rides into the sunset.

But we have to be committed to hurrying them along.

Ok, I’m just going to say this crazy thing out loud:

It is my professional opinion, as a typer of words for little pay and longtime citizen of these United States, that the GOP as we know it will soon, within my lifetime, be a thing of the past.

BEFORE YOU START TELLING ME I’M WRONG, let’s focus on the words “as we know it.”

I’m not suggesting that the Republican Party will disappear, nor that a third party will rise to threaten it. No apocalypse, no Zombie Lincoln coming back to regain the brand.

I’m merely suggesting that the GOP that very clearly has little-to-no time for gay people, black people, Latino people, Asian people, not-rich people, not-Christian people, or women people, will, within a generation, have to find a new way to keep big business afloat.

My evidence?

The American people.
