Observation: The Bush administration leaked sensitive information to journalists to start wars. The Obama administration leaks sensitive information to journalists to stop them.
Two reports today about Iran’s nuclear program and the possibility of an Israeli military strike have analysts in Israel accusing the Obama administration leaking information to pressure Israel not to bomb Iran and for Iran to reach a compromise in upcoming nuclear talks.
The first report in Foreign Policy quotes anonymous American officials saying that Israel has been given access to airbases by Iran’s northern neighbor Azerbaijan from which Israel could launch air strikes or at least drones and search and rescue aircraft.
The second report from Bloomberg, based on a leaked congressional report, said that Iran’s nuclear facilities are so dispersed that it is “unclear what the ultimate effect of a strike would be…” A strike could delay Iran as little as six months, a former official told the researchers.
“It seems like a big campaign to prevent Israel from attacking,” analyst Yoel Guzansky at the Institute for National Security Studies told ABC News. “I think the [Obama] administration is really worried Jerusalem will attack and attack soon. They’re trying hard to prevent it in so many ways.”
Rachel Maddow had a great segment last night on how batshit crazy the Republican party has become over the last thirty years when it comes to reproductive rights and family planning.
Example Numero Uno? When Papa Bush was UN Ambassador, he sent a letter to the director of Planned Parenthood at the time, Alan Guttmacher, congratulating Planned Parenthood on the issuance of an eight cent “family planning” stamp, and stating he was “deeply appreciative of the dedication it symbolizes.”

Forty years later, George H.W. Bush has thrown his support behind Mitt “We’re gonna get rid of Planned Parenthood” Romney.

Mitt Romney won’t explain to the American people what he would do if he were elected president.
Odd though that may sound—especially considering that presidential campaigns are designed specifically to inform voters of such plans—the strategy actually aligns quite well with Romney’s “emotion-free crisis management” style.
Romney isn’t the most likeable candidate to run for the presidency, and his campaign’s intention to swap out the conservative talking points for the more moderate middle ground rhetoric once the general election begins, as his chief campaign advisor forewarned, isn’t likely to boost his popularity among the GOP base. So in order to alleviate the nation’s continued ambivalence toward Mr. Etch-a-Sketch, Romney has announced a plan to…not announce his plans. The thinking behind this, I believe, is that if nobody knows what he’d do as president, he might have a chance of becoming one!
Jonathan Chait of New York magazine has the story:

I got some push back last week when I laid out the case that African-Americans were unfairly being singled out for being anti-gay bigots and for being responsible for passing Prop 8. Turns out that the notion of trying to split African-Americans and black pastors and chuch-goers especially from the LBGT community is literally in playbook for the actual bigots at NOM.
Late yesterday, the Human Rights Campaign, a gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender civil rights group, obtained “internal NOM documents” that were part of an ongoing investigation by the State of Maine into financial activities by the organization. NOM apparently fought hard to keep those documents sealed, and in reading portions of one of the documents (a 34-page document entitled “The National Strategy for Winning the Marriage Battle”) we understand why. Not only has this organization used ham-fisted approaches to attack the LGBT community, but there’s textual evidence that they aren’t afraid to use a ham-fisted approach to court black and Latino communities.
Good to know that Fox News, Michelle Malkin, Dana Loesch (good job CNN!) and the rest of the denizens of Wingnutopia are getting their news from a bunch of neo-Nazis:
Over the weekend, a picture began circulating that claimed to show Martin in a less-than-flattering light: shirtless, sagging pants, and giving the finger to the camera.
The image quickly circulated across blogs and websites, with many claiming it as evidence that Martin was not as innocent as family and supporters claimed, as well as alleging media bias.
There is one problem to that claim: the picture is not Trayvon Martin.
As I pointed out on Saturday, these images are coming straight from the Breitbrats via Stormfront.
Skewering presidential candidates who broadcasts their private religious beliefs is of no less import to the democratic process than dissecting their public beliefs on taxation and military policy.
So said Richard Dawkins, “the world’s leading Darwinian,” on “UP with Chris Hayes.”

Sigh:
At a shooting range in Louisiana on Friday, an onlooker encouraged Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum to pretend the target he was firing at was President Barack Obama.
“Santorum is shooting a 1911 Colt,” Politico’s Juana Summers tweeted from the sheriff’s office shooting range in West Monroe. “Range master says ‘Well, it’s not your first rodeo.’ Someone here says ‘pretend its Obama.’”
