People are asshats. People who are criminals are asshats plus one.

Arizona law would criminalize being an a-hole on the Intertrons

The nerds are upset***

The Arizona state legislature passed a bill (H.B. 2549) that would make it a crime to communicate via an electronic device any speech that is intended to “annoy,” “offend,” “harass,” or “terrify” — and some other stuff too.  Pretty vague stuff.  I’m sure I’ve fired off some tweets from one of my iThings that annoyed, offended, harassed, and terrified a few people. In fact, that’s sort of my raison-d’être.

So, dang. Why won’t Arizona just let me be great?

The Arizona state legislature apparently finds it difficult to tell the difference between a telephone and the Internet and has passed a bill that would extend the definition of harassment originally devised for phone conversations to anything communicated or published online.

White Supremacists Hack Email of #TrayvonMartin and a New Video Fails to Substantiate Zimmerman’s Self-Defense Claims

Two new developments in the sordid Trayvon Martin affair.

First, white supremacists hacked into Trayvon Martin’s email account and posted some of the information on 4chan.

From Gawker:

A slide titled “Trayvon Martin Used Marijuana Habitually,” features an exchange between Trayvon and a friend about getting high. Another slide, “Trayvon Martin was a Drug Dealer” features Facebook messages and photos that supposedly prove Martin dealt drugs, including a picture of Martin posing “aggressively with a large amount of cash in his hand.” It’s impossible to verify the hacked messages’ authenticity—like other anti-Trayvon Martin propaganda, they’re probably a mix of real and fake content— but they are now being passed around as gospel among the racist underbelly of the internet, including message boards like the neo-Nazi hive Stormfront, which Klanklannon apparently frequents.

The saddest bit of Gawker’s story is that Trayvon’s email demonstrated that he was a focused young man trying to get into college:

#TrayvonMartin: The Zimmerman Apologist Train is Careening Wildly Off-Track

I’m not a fan of Nancy Grace, but this is worth watching for further insight into the depths of the cover-up that is going on down in Florida:

Clearly, the video released by ABC News yesterday destroys Zimmerman’s claim that Trayvon attacked him.

Additionally, the funeral director has stated that there was no signs on Trayvon’s body that would indicate that he had been in a fight. So we have a video of Zimmerman where he’s unbloodied, unbruised, not wincing in pain, and wearing clean clothes, and we have Trayvon Martin with no cuts or bruises on his hands; but somehow we’re supposed to believe that Trayvon punched Zimmerman in the nose hard enough to break it, then slammed Zimmerman’s head into the ground, and began beating him?

No. That did not happen. It makes no damn sense.

Lying to support Trayvon? No thanks, Larry

I’ve gotten out of the habit of tuning in to evening cable news shows, but I flipped on The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell last night in time to catch him dressing down Rene Stutzman, a reporter for The Orlando Sentinel who covered the leak of George Zimmerman’s statement to police.

For more coverage of the Trayvon Martin case, here’s a link to all Angry Black Lady posts with that tag.

I was astonished as O’Donnell began to ream Stutzman, apparently quoting her story in the Sentinel.

O’DONNELL: Rene, I want to ask you about some lines in your story today that are presented as fact, and I don’t understand why they’re presented as fact. You say, “Zimmerman was on his way to the grocery store when he spotted Trayvon walking through his gated community.” Now, others have said that he was on a community watch thing. You don’t say that Zimmerman says that. You don’t say that police told you that. You just report it as fact as if you know exactly what Zimmerman was doing. You don’t know that.

STUTZMAN: I think you’re misreading the story –

O’DONNELL: No, I’m reading –

STUTZMAN: — High in the story, it says –

O’DONNELL: — I’m going to quote you again. “Zimmerman was on his way to the grocery store when he spotted Trayvon walking through his gated community.” You don’t attribute that to anyone, except your own knowledge.

Zimmerman’s Black Friend: He said ‘goons’ not ‘coons’ — it’s a term of endearment!

The Zimmerman image rehabilitation tour is careening headlong into Stupidtown and threatens to barrel right through the Cottonfield of Ignorance:

[A] friend of Zimmerman’s family told ABC on Sunday that people were jumping to the wrong conclusion.

“I spoke with my teenage daughter yesterday, and the word in question, it’s the difference between a ‘C’ and a ‘G’ from what I understand,” attorney Craig Sonner explained.

“And ‘goon’ is apparently a term of endearment in the high schools these days,” he added. “I don’t know of anyone younger than 40 who uses ‘coon’ as a racial epithet.”

George Zimmerman Thought that #TrayvonMartin’s Death Would ‘Blow Over’

Apparently we’re supposed to shed a tear for George Zimmerman.  Yeah, ok:

Neighborhood Watch captain George Zimmerman, who shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin last month, sparking a national outcry, thought the killing “would all blow over,” a friend, Joe Oliver, told ABC News this morning.

“Because he was there and he knows what happened…he’s been very confident – naively – that this would all blow over,” Oliver said.

~snip~

Oliver told the Today Show that Zimmerman is “just now realizing not just how big this is for him, but how big this is for the country.”

Trayvon, who resided with his mother in Miami Gardens, was visiting his father, Tracy Martin, when he was shot to death Feb. 26, 2012, in Sanford. The teen was walking from a convenience store to his father’s girlfriend’s home in The Retreat at Twin Lakes.

Zimmerman told police he shot the unarmed teen in self-defense.

Sonner said he was concerned for the safety of Zimmerman, who remains in hiding.

#TrayvonMartin: Breitbrat Dan Riehl’s Racism Is Hanging Out All Over the Place

This rush to demonize Trayvon Martin is beyond ridiculous.

Leading the charge in the cavalcade of stupidity surrounding Trayvon Martin are the Breitbrats. In this case, Intrepid Blogger Dan Riehl, “found” a Facebook photo of “Trayvon Martin” which is supposed to lend credence to the wingnuts’ desperate efforts to cast Trayvon Martin as a thug.

In the photo, a young black kid is in a room somewhere throwing up middle fingers. This, of course, is damning evidence to the Breitbrats because the kid is black, he looks kind of black, and I’m pretty sure the kid is black.  Also, it’s the first time in history that any kid, black or otherwise has ever mugged for a camera, so he must be up to something.  He’s probably mugging the cameraman!

Sigh.

‘New’ Witness Claims #TrayvonMartin Attacked Zimmerman [updated]

*eyeroll*

Apparently, now there’s a new witness who claims that Trayvon attacked Zimmerman:

The witness told FOX 35 in Orlando that he saw evidence of a fight between Martin and Zimmerman, which could lend credence to the gunman’s claim that he was acting in self-defence.

‘The guy on the bottom who had a red sweater on was yelling to me: “Help, help… and I told him to stop and I was calling 911,’ he said.

Zimmerman was wearing a red sweater; Martin was in a grey hoodie.

He added: ‘When I got upstairs and looked down, the guy who was on top beating up the other guy, was the one laying in the grass, and I believe he was dead at that point.’

Nutbag at Shooting Range Tells Santorum ‘Pretend Its Obama.’

Sigh:

At a shooting range in Louisiana on Friday, an onlooker encouraged Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum to pretend the target he was firing at was President Barack Obama.

“Santorum is shooting a 1911 Colt,” Politico’s Juana Summers tweeted from the sheriff’s office shooting range in West Monroe. “Range master says ‘Well, it’s not your first rodeo.’ Someone here says ‘pretend its Obama.’”
