Ronald Reagan Hagiography: The Clothes Have No Emperor

So he would have been 100 years old — so what?  He was still a disaster — as this book will remind you — so let’s stop fellating him already.

Ken Layne’s Wonkette post convinced me to check out Paul Slansky’s e-book called The Clothes Have No Emperor.  I’m about one hundred pages in, and it’s fantastic.  It’s essentially a timeline of the Reagan years broken down into bite-size pieces.  (You can read portions for free here — you’re going to want to buy it.  Trust.)

As a child of the eighties, I remember not liking Reagan (it was a reflexive reaction having been raised by sociofascist hippies) but I was a little fuzzy on all the details.  I remember watching the Iran-Contra hearings, and being annoyed that it was interrupting General Hospital – hey, I was like 10 years old.  Anyway, this book fills in those fuzzy details, and after reading only a chapter, one gets the grave sense that the history of this man’s presidency was being re-written as it was happening.  It’s disturbing.

Floridians: Please help find Octavius Howell

Spread the Word

FLORIDA ALERT: Please help find 11 YO Octavius, RT and blog!

Police in Miami (Miami-Dade County) are asking for the public’s help finding a missing child. If you’re in South Florida and have seen him, please contact police. His name is Octavius Howell and he’s just 11 years old. A little national media exposure wouldn’t be a bad thing, either.
From the Herald:

Octavius Howell, just shy of 5-foot tall and 80 pounds, was last seen Friday at the Madison Middle School at NW 10th Avenue and NW 90th Street.

He was wearing a red polo shirt and khaki pants.

People with information are asked to contacted Miami Detective Javier Soto at the Miami-Dade Police Special Victims Bureau’s Missing Persons Unit, 305-418-7201 or 305-476-5423.

The bureau issued a photo of the boy to accompany its plea.

This case has so far gotten the attention of HelpFindTheMissing.org and a Justice for Cayleee (Caylee Anthony) web-board, but I’ve heard nothing else. I have an 11 year old, and I know if this were my son, I’d want all the help I could get.

It’s almost axiomatic that black missing children get far less media attention than those who are white, and while all of these cases are important and urgent, I think we all can do more to make sure that media exposure, which is so helpful in solving these cases, gets shared equally.

Any bloggers who can pick this up, that would be greatly appreciated, I’m sure, by the police and by this child’s family.

Pepsi Max: Hide Your White Women

It just had to be a young white girl, didn’t it?

Aside from that fact that it is utterly ridiculous that whoever squeezed out this turd thinks diet soda has to be called “MAX” or “EXXXTREME” lest guys feel too “gay” drinking it, this ad is lazy, stupid, and ultimately offensive. I get that companies market to black people, so fine: I don’t care about the angry black harpy stereotype about black women, or the “my woman thinks i can’t do anything right” stereotype about black men (all men, really).  It was the “black man’s carnal lust for the white girl” stereotype that carried this commercial from stupid to downright offensive.  I mean, would it have been so hard to pick a girl of any other race?

Good thing I prefer Coke. (click here for eye candy)

Some Words About Egypt and Obama Shot Out of Sarah Palin's Face

She’s talking again.

Sarah Palin has blissfully been silent about Egypt. Until now.

In an interview with some dude at the Christian Broadcasting Network, Palin criticized Obama for his handling of Egypt:1

“It’s a difficult situation,” Ms. Palin told the Christian Broadcasting Network. “This is that 3 a.m. White House phone call, and it seems for many of us trying to get that information from our leader in the White House, it seems that that call went right to the answering machine.”

“And nobody yet has, nobody yet has explained to the American public what they know [what who knows?], and surely they [they who?] know more than the rest of us know [us who?] who it is who will be taking the place of Mubarak [what the -- how are they to know who is taking the place of Mubarak when Mubarak himself can't seem to make up his damn mind] and no, not, not real enthused [yes, but are you jazzed?] about what it is that that’s being done on a national level and from D.C. [Do you have any idea what you just said?] in regards to understanding all the situation there in Egypt. [The Situation is in Egypt?! Pics or GTFO.] And, in these areas [what areas?  Alaska?  Russia?] in that are so volatile right now, because obviously it’s not just Egypt but the other countries too [Which other countries, too?  Can you name one?  Didn't think so.] where we are seeing uprisings, we know that now more than ever, we need strength and sound mind there in the White House [::blank stare::]. We need to know what it is that America stands for [truth, justice, and the American way!  Duh.] so we know who it is that America will stand with. [Anyone standing with you is standing with Stupid.  That, we know.] And, we do not have all that information yet.”  [All what information?  What America stands for?  Whether America has legs?  I just -- I can't even.]

***[full text (sans my peanut gallery comments) below]

First of all: What in THEE hell is she talking about?

Second of all: “Nobody has explained to the American public what they know” is a delicious Freudian slip because that’s the Teatwit credo, isn’t it? “We don’t know anything until you tell us what we know.”

Third of all: I’m not kidding — what the fuck is she even saying?!

Fourth of all: Don’t get comfortable.  This country is full of asshats and they are dumb enough to elect this woman president. Nate Silver’s new graphContinue reading

The Daily Show: Rape? Rape-rape? Rapish?

I meant to post this a couple days ago.

You’ve probably already seen it, but if you haven’t, Kristen Schall attempts to explain the GOP’s scheme to redefine rape:

The Daily Show With Jon Stewart Mon – Thurs 11p / 10c
Rape Victim Abortion Funding
www.thedailyshow.com
Daily Show Full Episodes Political Humor & Satire Blog</a> The Daily Show on Facebook

The GOP has already backed away from this full on assault against women, but has yet to explain why the fuck they thought it was a good idea in the first place.
