And the War on Women marches on.
The Arizona Senate Committee on Healthcare and Medical Liability Reform approved HB 2800 which strips state funding from any group (like Planned Parenthood) that performs abortion even though existing state law and the fucking Hyde Amendment already prohibit the use of state/federal funds for abortion.
Kerrrist.
From Think Progress:
Earlier this week, an Arizona Senate panel approved HB 2800 on a party-line vote. The Arizona Senate Committee on Healthcare and Medical Liability Reform’s move came on the heels of support from the Arizona House, which approved the legislation earlier this month.
If HB 2800 is indeed passed by the full Senate, Gov. Jan Brewer (R) is expected to sign the legislation into law, stripping state funding from any group such as Planned Parenthood that performs abortions.
Unfortunately, the move would have a pronounced impact on poorer Arizona women who rely on places like Planned Parenthood for many of their health care needs.
~snip~
Former Surgeon General Richard Carmona, who is running for Arizona’s open U.S. Senate seat, criticized the state legislature, calling the Senate panel’s approval was an “extremely misguided” decision. “As a longtime health care professional,” Carmona told ThinkProgress, “I can say without hesitation that restricting access to reproductive health care is detrimental to the health and safety of women. Period.”
Arizona state law already prohibits using tax dollars for abortions. The real effect of HB 2800 would be to take away necessary health care services to low-income Arizonans.

I’m running out of codas to append to these sorts of blog posts. These bills are flying out of state legislatures so quickly that it’s nearly impossible to keep up. How can I be expected to write something original and pithy each time I’m forced to post about one of these abominable bills. I need to come up with some sort of script.
Republicans hate women.
I want to poke the GOP with asiangrrlMN’s rusty pitchfork™.
I want to slap the GOP with my rusty uterus. No wait.
I don’t know. I give up.
We need to vote these fuckers out.

These fuckers will be voted out. That’s why they are passing as much trash as they can before they get booted. It will take years to clean up their mess. Hasn’t Texas already been told they will lose Federal Medicaid $$$ if they defund Planned Parenthood? What are women with limited means to do for their health care. This is criminal.
This is class warfare. Taking necessary prenatal care from the poor will result in more miscarriages, stillbirths and other health issues for low income mothers. Fuck those guys.
Don’t forget we’ll be seeing a raise in back ally abortions and since they’re not very safe, that means more dead women.
Or women will just kill themselves if they feel desperate enough. I lost my best friend in high school when she chose suicide rather than deal with pregnancy. That was long before Roe v Wade.
This is all making me nauseous & bringing back some very painful memories. How did we ever let it come to this?
I’m sorry to hear about your friend. Also if you throw in Santorum’s desire to wage a war on porn (http://www.forbes.com/sites/joshbarro/2012/03/15/santorum-promises-broad-war-on-porn/) when he becomes president, you have to wonder about a party that is this obsessed with sex.
Say what you want about porn, but how far do you take something like that? Would he want romance novel companies (some of the sex scenes can get graphic) or people who have webpages with pornographic/erotic art or fiction taken down? And doesn’t this go against their idea of less government?
Less government is good — to them — when it means less access to health care and other services.
MORE government is good — to them — when it means getting all up in a woman’s uterus, mandating what people can and cannot watch, etc.
I hate these pigs (with apologies to actual pigs).
And don’t forget less government for businesses.
Right!
Save the corporations!
Save the unborn!
Fuck the people!
Rah rah rah!!!
My god, but I hate these people!
I was talking with my dad (who was a cop in the late 60′s to early 90′s) and he mentioned about seeing more than his own fair share botched back-ally abortions and shared my worry about such incidents happening again if abortion is repelled. The hardest part he said was breaking the news to the girl’s family that she didn’t survive.
Oh mah fucken Gawd!!! These people are idiots. these people will get voted out for this shit. The constant attacks on women’s health is pure insanity. The GOP is crazy nuts.
They’re also directly at cross purposes with their supposed fiscal conservatism. The Atlantic, no bastion of diehard liberalism, has an interesting and relevant article up about that:
http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2012/03/the-fiscal-conservatives-case-for-spending-more-money-on-birth-control/254442/
Here’s a pullquote:
It’s about hate and fear, as always, and gets in the way of their espoused penny-pinching.
As I’ve said before, and will again, there are people who relish the suffering of others. They’re known as Republicans.
Sadly these people have no concept for long-term planning.
Please sign and share this petition to let the Arizona government know that we do not support taking away funding from women’s health facilities that offer abortions. Taking away women’s health facilities in the name of “pro-life” is the most backwards thing I’ve ever heard. How many more unintended pregnancies will there be because women did not have access to contraceptives or information? How many people will die because they did not get the screening that would have detected cancer?
Abortions are not funded with this money already. Taking this money away will only be taking away valuable preventative care services and access to contraceptives.
