Looks like Bill Maher may have had a “holy crap the Republicans are nuts” epiphany. From Mediaite:
While performing his “StupidCrazyPolitics” show at the San Jose Center For The Performing Arts in San Jose, CA Thursday night, comedian and HBO host Bill Maher announced he would be donating $1 million to Priorities USA Action, a pro-Barack Obama Super PAC.
The moment was broadcast by the Yahoo! Screen Comedy Channel as part of its inaugural Screen Live Standup Series.
Bill Maher has pissed me off in the past. But if he’ll agree to retire all jokes about “voting for the black guy” and “gangsta presidents” then I’ll agree not to try to set him on fire with my brain. I don’t hold grudges. Besides, I’m too busy trying to keep the Republicans from crawling all up inside my lady business. I don’t have time to hold grudges.
The Republicans are fucking nuts. The war on women is going nookyular. We won’t survive four or eight years of GOP reign. Seriously. So let’s get our collective shit together, liberals, progressives, Democrats, and hippies. All you rich muckity-mucks out there, start ponying up some serious cashish.
Do it for the Uterati.

He pisses me off sometimes too, but I have to say, way to step it up, Bill!
Bill is the man! watch him every week, one of the few who tells it like it is,a comedian with facts, constantly debunking the repubs BS…He can be extreme at times, but hes a comedian..I still love him & in a world with Rush,Beck,O’reilly,Dennis Miller,Hannity and a MILLION other right wing nut jobs out there im happy to have Bill to tune in to every week! With almost every Repub candidate having billionare backers,im happy to see someone step up for Obama putting money where their mouth is =) There is SOOO much misinformation out here & spreading fast with social media,i hope smart folks get out 4 Obama 2012
Yep no grudges here either. US liberals need to focus on getting Obama reelected.
Among people who know me well, I’m legendary for my capacity to carry a grudge. I fall into the “I’ll forgive, but I don’t forget” school, which means I regard this as very nice, but I’m not forgetting the past. What he does in the future will determine how I regard him.
Still, I think the recent trend among the Republican candidates has scared the living crap out of him.
“Yeah, let me stoke up the flames of discontent, then when the shit is nuts, drop a big check”
I dont expect Mikey Moore to do any shit like that
Its a nice gesture though, plus his about face on the Occupy, telling the dirty hippies to put up the tents and such is an interesting reversal
I agree. I can hold a grudge with the best of them! If you stab me with a fork, I might come to forgive you but I will NEVER forget. You will always get my “side eye.”
OT: But I sure wish I could set people on fire with my brain. There sure would be at least four people burning today!
My capacity for forgiveness is on par with Darth Vader. My opinion of him hasn’t changed. I do commend him for his donation.
I don’t forgive or forget – though that’s another post entirely. I’m glad Maher at least temporarily came to his senses, but like you, I will continue to be cautious and wary of him. I agree that he probably realized it was Obama or batshitcrazy and was at least smart enough to realize the former is infinitely preferable to the latter.
What a sellout, he said he likes Ron Paul, then goes and donates money to Obama? Fuck him!
Oh yes, Maher should continue to like a candidate who’s just as crazy (if not crazier) than Sanctorum and Gingrich? He should also continue to like a candidate who is a neo-Confederate and has been trying to keep his ties to white supremacists hidden for years?
So you cry, “what a sellout?” Well, just how much is your loyalty to Ron Paul going to impact America when he fails to get the GOP nomination yet again! And just how true is Paul when he’s benefitted from the very political system he claims to be an “outsider” of? The man is knee-deep in earmarks for his home district back in Texas yet his supporters still naively believe the man stands for “smaller government?” The man has served in Congress for over 20 years and still has the nerve to call himself an “outsider.”
So, who’s the real sellout here, Dave! Honestly!
The Republicans are bringing us “All Schiavo Moments, All The Time.” More and more and more people are watching, listening, and thinking the same thing: “These people aren’t just crazy, they’re dangerous!”
Yes, forgive but not forget should definitely apply to Bill Maher. It should also apply to me because, at one time, I agreed with Maher and others of the “professional left.” However, I got wise and realized what was going on. I hope Maher has had the same wising up.
I think Bill Maher is realizing that its either Obama or whatever evil crawls out of the GOP nomination process. So, its either support the most successful liberal POTUS since LBJ or go back to the dark ages.
I don’t understand all this love for Ron Paul. He has no chance of winning the Republican nomination. Zero chance! So if he is so commited to his ideals why not drop out now and build a third party for Novemeber? The answer is he is gutless. He has no chance of winning a general election for President. There are two choices President Obama or whichever nut job the Republicans pick. Which is what Bill Maher doing with his donation.

As pointed by Lawrence O’Donnell – Ron Paul isn’t a true libertarian, he’s just the latest incarnation of the John Birch Society. True libertarians wouldn’t be anti-choice, anti-woman or anti-gay (and certainly as anti-immigrant and anti-minority) as is Dr. Paul.
It’s nice that he did this, but I will continue to give him the side eye.
My respect for Bill ended when he sat there and snickered as M. Moore said the thing about the President and a pink tutu. That was the last time I watched his show. Since then he also let Mikey say the thing about voting for a black man and getting a white one or some such crap.
I haven’t forgiven nor forgotten. He will have to do a lot more than throw money he can certainly afford and certainly owed for being such a dick before that will happen.
Oh and it would have meant a whole lot more if he’d done it quietly instead of this publicity stunt.
Cappadonna-
I caught that and it was dead on…..after Dr. Paul went after Senator “No Birth Control” in the last debate anyone with an I.Q. above 80 could see he is only staying in the race to help Willard…
Bill Maher has always supported Obama, even though at times he may be critical of him.
