Fox News is neither foxy nor news
In a truth-based universe, Fox News would have to call itself Fox Dispenser of Manufactured Sexist Racist Classist Homophobic Outrage and Bullshit*, but we don’t live in that universe, so they get to call themselves Fox News with nary an FCC sanction in sight. Sure, once in awhile, one of the bobbleheads, usually Shep Smith, will slip up and tell the truth, but for the most part, they are there solely to incite their base and spread fear and hatred of the dreaded lie-bruls.
Therefore, the news that someone on Fox had said something inflammatory, ignorant, hateful, and downright nasty did not surprise me. The fact that it was a woman saying mean, hateful shit about other women did not surprise me, either. Let’s face it – any woman willing to go on Fox other than to combat the lies is going to be more misogynistic than the guys on Fox, just as any POC willing to debase him/herself by showing up on Fox will say the most hateful racist things ever. Why? It’s the nature of the beast, the same reason why prominent women and POC in the GOP are so damned sexist/racist respectively – in order to make your way to the top in the GOP if you’re not an old white guy, you have to give them cover for all the hateful shit they say/do.
It’s the same at Fox if you’re female, a POC, queer, whatever. They’re only going to put you on if you make their case for them and allow them to say, “See, a woman is the one saying rape is overblown and just women being whiny. A woman is the one denigrating the feminists, therefore, it must be true and OK.”
In this case, it’s one Liz Trotta talking about women in combat and then veers into nasty punkass bitch territory when she sneers at women in the military complaining about being raped too much because what do they expect being in such close quarters with men, who, apparently, cannot control themselves at all**.
I watched the video until she started naming all the things the military has done to help victims of military rape and then said, and I paraphrase, “Let me tell you what this extreme feminism is costing American.” I stopped. I just couldn’t listen to her hateful sneering voice any longer, not to mention the fact that our military itself is costing Americans an inordinate amount of money – which is something never mentioned.
The GOP absolutely despises women – and so does Fox
I wasn’t surprised by what she had to say or even outraged because I expect nothing less from the miscreants at FOX, but you know what I am? I’m done. I’m done with FOX and the GOP and their ever-increasing War on Women™. They are used to saying whatever they want and not getting push-back for it. Or, if they do get push-back, they whimper about how meaaaaaaaaaan liberals are to them. It happened after the Komen fiasco, and man, for people who think of themselves as tough, they sure do have very delicate feelings.
I have reached my tipping point with the GOP and Fox by extension and their sheer hatred of women. The Komen bullshit, the contraception nontraversy and now this. I have a cold fury inside me as I survey the right’s attempt to denigrate women and control our bodies. They can couch it however they want, but the bottom line is that if they had their way, we would be back to the days of women being chattel with no rights of our own.
The thing is, they live in their own little bubble and don’t realize that most women do not want what they are selling. 99% of American women have used some form of birth control in their lives, and I am pretty certain that most women would agree that is is not playing the victim to demand the right not to be raped. We outnumber them, and, as we showed with the Komen fiasco, when we band together, we can defeat them.
My tai chi teacher says this of fighting (and, yes, I’m paraphrasing), “The best thing to do is walk away from a fight if at all possible. If you can’t, then fight to the death.” I am willing to fight this War on Women™ to the bitter end. Who’s with me? I’ll supply the rusty pitchforks™.

I am woman. Hear me roar.
I am finding it increasingly difficult to write about the Republicans without resorting to explicitly eliminationist rhetoric. I no longer only want them defeated at the ballot box, I want them to suffer. I want them bankrupted, dissolute, homeless, imprisoned, dependent on the mercy of the people at whom they now sneer.
Yeah, it’s really hard not to go into that, as one sees more and more… it just becomes clear that they don’t just want to win. They want us under their heels or dead. Full stop.
I struggle with this myself, StarStorm, because I so do not want to go there – but I am halfway down that path.
Well, but think of the horrible things the Obama administration is trying to do to them! Regulate banks and mortgage companies so they can’t lose their homes from robo-signing, keep insurance companies from kicking them and their kids out through rescission, ask companies and billionaires to pay their fair share of taxes, killing al Qaeda members — it’s like he’s declared a fatwa against them!
I like the cute little red bow in your hair. It’s always good to make an effort to be pretty, even while slaughtering people with a rusty pitchfork.
You know, the thing is, I was raised to respect our servicemen. And now Fox is telling me that they’re animalistic psychos who prey on their coworkers, and can’t possibly be expected to be any better than that? I’ve been known to get quite angry with people in bars who talk about American soldiers the way the Fox News representatives do.
Something just occurred to me…there is another way in which this whole controversy is a master stroke, Newt Gingrich HAS to remain silent throughout this debate. While he can ignite the kindling, he cannot participate in the firestorm. Clearly he or his various partners have used contraception or there’d be lots of little Newts running around. And while he can stir up the base’s paranoia that the left is “waging war on religion” he can’t really go too far down that path or it turns the conversation to adultery; just how long is it that he’s been a catholic and various other topics he’d rather not get into so another unintended benefit of this stupid, stupid debate is a couple of Newt-less days. Nice!
It is a tough call. Not having cable or satellite TV, I don’t see Fox news and should care less. However, just reading the stories about these people on Fox gets my blood boiling. Why would you have those people on if not to stir up controversy for the sake of ratings. But is that the food that the old neutered white guys want: hate?

To paraphrase Bill Maher, a misogynist is a guy who couldn’t get laid in high school and spends the rest of his life taking it on women.
The problem is that the culture wars have been lost -most women use birth control and the right to choose, and most Americans don’t care who or what you do in your bedroom. Santorum, Gingrich and Fox News are 90′s relics fighting battles from the 70′s.
It also doesn’t help that Obama has removed all the right’s weapons – the Right has lost the fights on the budget, the war on terrorism and everything else. So why not go back to old faithful. Except, instead of big guns, those culture war issues look more like rusty muskets today.
I’ve been wondering for a while now about the whole question of women and the Republican Party. Specifically, in terms of why and how they’d find it possible to support a party so explicitly dedicated to limiting their lives, and as we’re seeing now, doing outright, direct harm.
And then a Facebook friend, the other day, phrased it this way: Some women are in an abusive relationship with the Republican Party.
Illuminated even the inside of my gray head, that did.
I think I need a bit more coffee this morning, as though it certainly appears there’s a wonderful line of political attack to be found in there, I’m just not getting the “script” vibe.
For the real world, though, my advice would be the same as it would to any woman in such a situation: Get out of there first, while you’re still intact, and sort out the rest of the details from a place of safety.
A day or two ago, I saw someone on the Intertoobz postulate that perhaps the GOP legislators caved on passing the payroll tax cut extension with no offsets because they were going to double down instead on the contraceptives issue. Could we possibly be that lucky? Sex sells, and something like that would surely turn the heads of even the lowest-informed of the low-information voters. I can’t allow myself to speculate on it; it would just be too wonderful.
Yeah, the GOP are real geniuses – because nothing helps a family’s pocketbook more than an unwanted pregnancy. And nothing is more relative to job growth in the 21st Century than Victorian views of sexuality.
Are they just giving up or are these just this stupid.

You might get an an lol but the first self defense class I took was from a cop who was an ex-Marine.
Our first class he told us: “Women have really high pitched irritating voices & I want you bitches to scream. Do you hate my ass? Now scream!”
He pissed us all off so much that night he is probably lucky we didn’t band together to beat him into powder. But he did a good job of teaching us how to defend ourselves. He was a really good guy and I learned to use my voice.
To paraphrase General Patton, FOX News commentators know even less about unit cohesion than they do about fornication. I have seen soldiers go to Leavenworth for doing the kind of stuff Trotta seems to think is a matter of course. Military juries are notoriously unforgiving of those who injure their fellow soldiers, and rightfully to.
Fox News measures their patriotism by how badly they are willing to let soldiers behave (to other people, preferably in other countries.)
The US armed forces see it rather differently.
Just imagine the reaction if Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, or Elizabeth Warren had said, in effect, “all men are naturally rapists, incapable of self-control”.
