I keep playing it and I want more! He made me shiver and well, they make fun of his dancing but they can’t get him on his singing. Lastword Lawrence played this live in a breaking news cut right in the middle of the show. Thank you so much for posting it!
Can I just say how awesome it is to see a black president singing Al Green at the Apollo? I mean, can we just stop and think about how momentous that is?
It really is sort of mind breaking. I mean, go back to year, I dunno, 5, of W.’s administration, and try to picture this ever being a part of the future. It makes me start daydreaming about other future presidents, other future perfect moments. It also makes me appreciate the Kennedy years, when it was okay to have a crush on the president. It’s like John Stewart said — you want your president to be better than you, to be elite, to be, well, crush-worthy. Smart, suave, charming, and oozing capability.
Or we could vote republican.
Yeah, gonna stick with the president who I actually enjoy watching speak, even if his politics aren’t perfect.
I am so in love. It is unseemly for a woman of my advanced years to be this besotted with a president. I plan to enjoy every second of my besottedosity.
Even more awesome? This was his LAST gig of the day. He STARTED in Florida this morning y’all announcing the tourist visa initiative, then spoke at 3 back to back high ticket fundraisers in NYC before doing this event. And he still had the energy to sing and deliver remarks that fired up the crowd. What the F did the GOP Klowns do today that could hold a candle to that? Zip, Nada, ZERO.
What makes this more funny is the fact that outside, all those OWS people who gathered to make a scene got shouted down by all the blah residents of Harlem.
I made the mistake of reading that article and the person they spoke to had the nerve to say PBO has done ‘nothing for this country’ ! So they ignore Mittens going to Park Ave for a big fundraiser but go to Harlem and call PBO a Nazi. Rrrright!
ArrogantDemon, appropriately/ironically enough, I’ve been re-reading Ralph Ellison’s “Invisible Man,” because Court Theatre in Chicago is doing a world-premiere stage adaptation of it (first time the Ellison estate has allowed such a thing) and I’m seeing it tomorrow night. (I wrote a little feature on it but I’m not sure it’s online yet.)
At any rate, just last night after reading that twitter stream, I read the chapter where the protagonist is taken to task by the mostly white “Brotherhood” for not doing the right kind of organizing in Harlem. I think maybe Kilkenny would endorse the patronizing sentiments of “Brother Jack” — “We do not shape our policies to the mistaken and infantile notions of the man in the street. Our job is not to ask them what they think but to tell them!”
ABL, I read it in a book group about twenty years ago (a bunch of nice white liberal ladies who all worked in reproductive-health issues), and I KNOW there was a lot I missed back then. And probably a lot I missed this time, too — but it’s amazing. At risk of self-promotion, here’s the link to the article I wrote about it for the U of C website. Seeing the show tomorrow and I’m seriously stoked!
President Obama, “I’m. I’m sooooo – o in love with you, whatever YOU want to do, is alright with meee – e – e – e – e!” As it relates to governing folks. Not personally. After all, the man is married to my BFF (Best First Lady. Forever.)
Let the haters keep trying to think up ways for the black community to turn against him. Not gonna happen because this man is authentic.
What makes it so sweet, you would have never expected for him to sing a song, let alone, an Al Green song AND then to sound absolutely smooootthhh! That’s our President….intelligent, funny, decisive, unmovable and now a singer. I just love him. (watch the video of the Correspondence Dinner w/Seth Myers/ and Donald Trump… if you think this was good)
I can’t stop smiling:-) I.m so proud of him! I enjoyed the cute comments but just take a minute and think about what we are witnessing in this man.
God is awsome!
Oh my word. I know it’s probably not appropriate to have naughty thoughts about my President, but…yeeeeah. :P
GOD DAMN! The lady of the house heard the prez singin’ and wants to put on an Al Green record and head to bed! (goodnight, all)
Caught myself doing the same thing. Dangerous! Holy smoke!
My man sounds good — I saw it live. Someone said he probably sings that to Michelle.
If he sounds that good, he’d better be singing that to Michelle! Oooh, baby!
My wife is sleeping but I know she’s gonna love it. Maybe I should wake her up.
That was messed up. Unless you ain’t sayin’ what I THINK you were sayin’. Um, nevermind.
Oh my. I think I just ovulated. Wait, is that possible? I don’t care!
“I just ovulated. “That is the funnest thing I have heard in while.

I agree with Alison, naughty thoughts big time.
Can I just say how awesome it is to see a black president singing Al Green at the Apollo? I mean, can we just stop and think about how momentous that is?
Hot damn.
Hell Yes!
Can this be sent to Cornell West and all those “not black enough” or “afraid of being black” critics, just to twist the knife in?

Hilarious!!
As if I couldn’t love my president some more he goes and sings to me. I Love him! Our forever president Obama.
I am so in love. It is unseemly for a woman of my advanced years to be this besotted with a president. I plan to enjoy every second of my besottedosity.
Yes, it is most awesome, ABL! And, the timing is exquisite!
Oh how he makes me smile. Go head on Mr. President!
I just keep watching it over and over. I believe I actually swooned. Ohhh yeah…naughty thoughts about the POTUS. That was hot!
Hot damn. President Obama can sing. *fans self* This made my night.

Whaaaaaat!

Kinda scared them if we can believe the tweeting from the incident

Can you blame for being so happy, he can sing?
GOP in shambles, jobs outlook looking great, 2 great decisive decision, and he went to Disney World.
And things might have ended after a personal serenade in the Lincoln Bedroom if you know what I mean…..doink…doinkk….doink

that’s a great point. i haven’t read invisible man in AGES.

He has a lovely voice.
President Obama, “I’m. I’m sooooo – o in love with you, whatever YOU want to do, is alright with meee – e – e – e – e!” As it relates to governing folks. Not personally. After all, the man is married to my BFF (Best First Lady. Forever.)

Oh, yeah, Willard Romney DEFINITELY has the charisma to beat Obama in November.
I mean, sure, the president can croon a little Al Green, but can he rap? Can he throw down like this?
I don’t THINK so.
I LOVE that clip, He looks so uncomfortable. I wonder who those kids thought he was.
That gave me tingles…..you know, down there.

“Maammmy, maaaammmmy”
Can I just say that his little laugh/giggle is just as sexy as his singing.
