Shit White Girls Say… to Black Girls

“HOLLER!”

This is a tad old (actually, it’s only a week old, which is like a year in meme-time), but it’s hilarious and spot the fuck on and not everyone has seen it:

(video after the jump)

It’s funny because it’s true.

***Here’s an interview with Franchesca Ramsey from The Village Voice.  You should read it.  And here’s an article from my new favorite blog, Color Lines.  You should read it, too.

Oh and you’re welcome.  Duh.

in what world is this ‘spot the fuck on’?
Even my stupidest friends aren’t this stupid.

    • I say, with no small amount of relief, that I have never actually said any of these things (I was a little nervous to click on “play,” to be frank!), but I know people who have either said these things, or had to deal with these things being said to them.

Never, EVER underestimate the power of people to be stupid.

      • Yeah, I took a deep breath before clicking too. “How schooled am I about to get?”

Either I haven’t said any of these, or I’ve successfully blocked the shame from my memory banks.

    • I am well into my 40′s – this is EXACTLY what I have heard over the years from an assortment of white girls and women. I even had a white roommate who asked if the color of a soap I used changed because of my skin color. And I cannot tell you how many times they would come up and compare my year around “tan” with theirs. Please…not all of it was offensive, but it did happen.

      • A) The… color of your soap? Sweet baby Moses in the bullrushes.

        B) OMG you just reminded me of how (some of) the kids at my overwhelmingly white, upper middle class high school (Lake Forest High School, IL, 1978-1982) would talk about people’s tans! I had completely blanked on that! Oh God. Oh God. Oh God. At least I can say that I knew at the time that it was fucked up to use the n-word as a color descriptor, but holy God. Sometimes we forget things half on purpose, I think.

        • Emily, I know, right? LOL!! I just looked at her like she was out of her damn mind and she acted like she was some reebo version of Diane Fossey, trying to “understand” my people. Lawsy…

          :)

    • Well, for me, in Georgia. In the United States of America. North America. North/Left hemisphere . Earth.

  2. She’s gotten a lot of really good response to this and tweeted a lot of good news about media coverage and an audition AND SHE WAS A GUEST ON ANDERSON! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDN0BI1mgjw&feature=youtu.be

I really hope this leads to good things for her because man oh man is she funny.

CORRECTION: She will be a guest on Anderson – tomorrow! Thursday! Awesome sauce!

That’s odd. At the school’s I went too, black girls would police that shit rapidly and fiercely. But that was during the desegregation push and the all of the kids involved were poor or working class. There was an immediate penalty for being a fool. At the end of the day the only white kids who had trouble were the ones who didn’t honor basic human courtesy, or who were so stupid they could not grasp why a black person can use terms what will inflame them if a white person uses the same term. It ain’t rocket science. You just have to be as smart as a fifth grader. Literally.

  4. This is spot on. I watched this last week and it reminded me of when I was working at Office Max back when I was 24. Now at least my co-worker admitted that he knew nothing about blacks and didn’t have any black friends. So when he had some questions for me, I knew that the possibility of some dumb shit being said was high.

So he asks me, “How come all black people are afraid of dogs?” I didn’t have an answer for him except, “Well I’m not afraid of dogs and I honestly can’t answer that question. Why are people afraid of mice when mice aren’t even a quarter of our size?” Of course my other white co-worker chimed in with, “No it’s true it’s true. My mom trained her dogs to attack blacks. It’s all in the scent.”

  5. Even in very liberal circles, shit like this goes on. (And I’m also hoping I haven’t been guilty of it.) A black friend of mine who works at a prominent arts organization was at a fundraiser and a board member suggested she go talk to a group of new potential funders about the work her department (education and outreach) did for the nonprofit. As she approached a group of the well-heeled white people, one of the women in the group turned to her and said “OH, no thank you.” As if she were a caterer. Even though she wasn’t in a waiter’s uniform and didn’t have a tray with her.

Another friend who has done a lot of work with Latina theater artists talks about how, even when people are supportive, it comes out in tiresome cliches — “these spicy stories of Latina life,” etc. (Again, something I hope I’ve never done.)

  6. Yea, that is not just to black girls. They say this shit all the fucking time.

  7. The photo on the child on this blog is degrading and disturbing. Change it! Rap music is considered cRAP brutal, LOUD, sexually depraved and violent demonic music played in a depressing, hypnotic A440 tonal pitch. Illuminati-inspired. Statistics show that 75% to 80% of Black children are brought up in fatherless, welfare-dependent households in ugly neighbourhoods, leave High School without graduating and acquire a GOTTA GET WHITEY MENTALITY….. even though Whitey pays for that education, their welfare cheque and almost every other thing. They would ‘destroy every neighbourhood they lived in if it were not for State Troopers or police’ who try to stop them.’ They have ‘NO HONOUR, WALK AROUND WITH A BIG OLD CHIP ON THEIR SHOULDER’ and they are not ‘as intelligent’ as White people and ‘everybody knows it.’ These are not MY words,. They are the words of highly respected BLACK pastor Manning of Atlahministries.com. He calls Blacks the “most racist people in America and says they are full of hate and violence.” Maybe a modified segregation is what is necessary in the future if Blacks hate White people so much. We could develop separately or Whites can have their own States. Perhaps White people should be taught not to ever talk to, or fraternise with, other races at any time, under any situation. It is a fact that, on average, Black men rape 35,000 White girls in the USA every year and rob, viciously assault and murder Whites. No wonder White girls are nervous as hell to be around them. Far too many Blacks are ‘despicable’ says Pastor Manning. Can you call him a ‘racist?’ Change the picture! The child has no dignity. Look up Wagist.com to see how many White people have been murdered by Racist Blacks! Change the picture of the naked baby please!

[I'm letting this comment stand because it is hilarious in its stupidity. And the baby is me and it will remain. I'm sure you'll learn to live with it. -ABL]

  8. “Rap music is considered cRAP brutal, LOUD, sexually depraved and violent demonic music played in a depressing, hypnotic A440 tonal pitch. ”

So, we’ll pitch it down to baroque standard tuning. Problem solved!

  9. Pretty sure Alex is schizophrenic, not stupid.

  10. That does not sound like “shit white girls say” it sounds like what ‘idiots’ and retards say.

Also, as far as the ‘hair thing’ goes- when I was in high school, (and the ONLY white person in all my classes) every black chick that sat behind me in every class played with my hair EVERY day. I wouldn’t even know who they were. I just let them. They would braid it, touch it, run their fingers through it, twist it, brush it, ask other people to come over and touch it, ask why it wouldn’t ‘stay’ (like in the braid)because when you let go it just spins out, ask what I did to make it so soft; and also always asked me for lotion, took me awhile to understand what was up with that, I didn’t even USE lotion at the time & finally told them so; asked them why so many people asked me for some. Learned about ‘ashy’ skin. That’s actually pretty funny and a good insult when you’re pissed at somebody. XD XD

The fact is a whole lot of black people haven’t been around whites any more than alot of whites have been around blacks. So touching the hair, etc., is just normal out of curiosity. The other kids at school also called me ‘the hulk’ because my eyes are a very very pale grey that they apparently had never seen before; and one day I looked up at this girl and she said ‘OOo is that real? (my eye color) that looks like the HULK! (this was like 1980, hulk was real popular back then) Then, of course, told everybody to come look at my crazy hulk eyes.

Anyway, maybe it’s just because I’m from Memphis, but, I never met anybody that stupid as the girl in this video; when it comes to someone from a different race, at least. Maybe it’s just the DUMBING DOWN of American students, I don’t know. I can only recall some stuff I experienced when I was in school.

    • Understand that curiosity fine… but when your the one of the only blacks in school curiosity turns to insulting quickly.
