Stephen Colbert Interviews Samuel L. Jackson

“I’m not black, white or anything — I’m a movie star.”

This is a couple weeks old, but I just watched it, so it’s new to me! Samuel L. Jackson (who really reminds me of my father) discusses his new broadway role playing Martin Luther King Jr. in The Mountaintop, and a hilarious discussion about race ensues.

I love that he calls being a movie star, “totally dope” and “a pretty big fucking deal.” Outstanding.

And, as always, you’re welcome.

  5. Awesome interview, thanks for posting this

  6. Ok, so maybe its just me. I found that interview to be quite disgusting. Totally turned me and my sisters off and we were planning to go to NYC to see the Mountaintop. Not any more. I got the impression he was ‘buck dancing’ for John Stewart.
Do you think MLK would deny he is a black man – first and foremost? Perhaps MLK would have said something like, I am not a negro (standard language at that time), I am a civil rights activist and that is a BFD!! MLK was always AND will always be a black man first!!! His struggles were due to the fact he was a black man.
Maybe I am just sensitive but I don’t get a black-man denying he is black and being an actor is a big fing deal. Do the producers or script writers think of that before offering you a role? I have no doubt that he is doing Broadway because he cant find other work. Perhaps you know his humor better than I, but it totally turned me off and rubbed me the wrong way.
