Democratic Congresswoman says GOP colleagues admit to tanking the economy to hurt Obama

See? SEE?! I fucking told you so.

We all knew it, right? But it’s especially painful to hear it put so bluntly. Rep. Loretta Sanchez from California:

Transcript after the jump.

Interviewer: Harry Reid said yesterday, and frankly we’ve heard this from a lot of Democrats, the Republicans oppose the jobs bill for political reasons, that it helps them if the economy stays in bad shape. But, is that fair?

Sanchez: Well, it certainly is fair. I mean, I’ve heard my own colleagues on the Republican side say, “We just want to make Obama look so bad. We don’t care how bad the economy gets. We can win this election, we want our president –”

Interviewer: You’ve heard them say that?

Sanchez: Yes. They have said that. They’ve said that! They’ve said that behind closed doors to me! They said, “Nothing is moving.” They said, “We want to make him look bad. We want to get rid of him. We want to get rid of the health care reform bill.” They only way they believe they can get rid of health care reform is to get rid of President Obama.

Interviewer: Who is saying that, Congresswoman?

Sanchez: Well, I’m not gonna … these are actual friends on the other side who have said, “This is what is happening in our conference”, in their groupings when they’re meeting.

Shameful.

  1. Shame on her for having such friends. She should call them out by name.

  2. Bunch of bull. No dem. is going to refrain from naming the people across the aisle. It’s just a vague, cowardly cry of “wolf.”

    • I’ll name a name for you: Mitch McConnell. C’mon, it’s fucking ALL of them. You know it. I know it. The whole fucking country knows it. Hell, the interviewer herself said she’s hearing it from “a lot of Democrats”. Urrbuddy knows what’s going on. Naming the names of people confirming it isn’t even necessary.

      • I will not accept a quote without a source named. It’s the same as saying “i read (this or that) somewhere, so it’s true.” A sourceless quote is as fiction: made up and not credible. “everybody knows” is more of the same; it’s no proof, and impeachable.

      • Naming names is an absolute necessity for credibility. You can accuse someone you suspect of something criminal, but unless you have a witness willing to confront him to his face, you’re commiting slander.
Vague insinuations amount to nothing. There’s a term to define Sanchez’s remarks, as quoted: pandering to peoples’ suspicions for votes.

  3. This isn’t news. As has been noted, Mitch McConnell let this cat out of the bag previously. What has to happen is that the Republicans need to be hammered with this tidbit early and often. Take Mitch McConnell’s words, put them in a commercial and play it every day, everywhere. Saturate the airwaves. Repetition is the key to driving home the message: the Republican Party is more interested in gaining power than governing.

  4. When the Republican candidates for President make going after Obama personally a linchpin of their campaign, this is news? As others have state, Mitch McConnell as well the High Priest of Tea Party Retards, Jim DeMint said so in no uncertain terms that their only go goal is to screw over the President & make him look bad.

    • When the Republican candidates for President make going after Obama personally a linchpin of their campaign, this is news?

No. It’s not. That’s why this post has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the Republican candidates for President. Are you sure you’re commenting on the right post?

      • No, I’m reading the right post. My point was the entire ‘Beat Barack’ plan for the GOP is to “cock block” everything the man tries to fix the economy and when nothing changes (or things get worse) blame everything on him. **

I only brought up the GOP Primary Clown Car to re-emphasize the point.

** The Professional Left’s plan to “Teach Obama a Lesson”, OTOH, is to stand by and watch the Republicans torpedo everything and then whine that Obama isn’t fighting for us. Weirdly symbiotic.

  5. Let me ask you something, who decides who the professional left is? Sorry, I do not see the point in using this term unless you are trying to splinter a group.

    • Bob, here a pretty clear definition from Taegan Goddard’s Political Dictionary

Basically, the Professional Left (PL) nominally liberal activists and commentators who make their living pontificating on TV or writing books but contribute little to nothing to actual change. Jane Hamshear of Fire Dog Lake, Glenn Greenwald, Cornell West and Ralph Nader are examples.

What frustrates many pragmatic progressives and moderates about the PL
are just as inflexible, pig headed as the Right Wing Tea Party crowd are only a 1/5 as focused and organized. Because many nominally progressives listen and follow these folks they were Moses with Ten Commandments – their lack of political context, love conjecture, often baseless Obama-bashing and no real plans for moving progressives forward becomes a cancer on liberals overall. So, because Michael Moore and Keith Olbermann, for example, have many liberals believing Eric Holder is personally arresting people at OWS protests and that HRC was a complete failure. Too much bitching.

  6. Hm, it is not exactly a secret that Republicans would do this. Since she is quoting individuals it would have been better to name them.

It’s a good example of what I see when presented with unattributed quotes or citations. I accept this as being just as credible as your article.
