Racist Orange County Republican Marilyn "The Racist" Davenport racistly emails racist photos of Obamas

Did I mention that she’s racist? Because she totally is.

Last week, Marilyn Davenport, a “Southern California tea party activist and member of the Central Committee of the Orange County Republican Party” a.k.a. a dumb ass racist old lady sent an e-mail to select friends and acquaintances. Beneath the words “now you know why no birth certificate,” there is a hilarious family portrait of the Obamas:

HILARIOUS, right?!

When reached for comment, Davenport said the following—actually I don’t even need to tell you what she said first. You know what she said, don’t you? It’s a Variation on a Theme of Some of My Best Friends are Black:

“Oh, come on! Everybody who knows me knows that I am not a racist. It was a joke. I have friends who are black. Besides, I only sent it to a few people–mostly people I didn’t think would be upset by it.”

Scott Baugh chairman of the Orange County Republican Party, however feels differently: “It is dripping with racism and it does not promote the type of message Orange County Republicans want to deliver to the public. I think she should consider stepping down as an elected official.”

Another OC GOP official said “It’s much more racist than the watermelon e-mail. I can’t believe it was sent out. I’m not an Obama fan but how stupid do you have to be to do this?” [see below]

While yet another GOP official said that Davenport is “a really, really sweet old lady so I am surprised to hear about this.”

So essentially, this racist-ass white lady sent a racist-ass joke to people whom she thought were racist assholes, too. Didn’t quite work out for ya there, did it Marilyn? And thus far the only reaction has been “she should probably resign. It’s pretty bad.” (More on that later.)

Turns out not all the Orange County Republicans are a bunch of racist assholes. One understands why she might think that most or all Orange County Republicans are racist assholes, after all Orange County is home to Orly Taitz and home to Islamophobic assholes who think good old-fashioned fun equals screaming that Muslim-Americans (gathering to raise funds for women’s shelters, no less) should go home. [click this link and read Emily's passionate excoriation of said assholes.]

Orange County is also home to Dean Grose, the racist ass Los Alamitos Mayor who circulated an e-mail featuring the White House sitting on a watermelon patch.1

You can't spell

In an interview with OC Weekly reporter Scott Moxley, racist-ass Marilyn Davenport admitted that Scott Baugh, the chairman of the OC Republican Party, told her that the e-mail was tasteless. Also during that interview, racist-ass Davenport said to the Moxley, “you’re not going to make a big deal about this are you. It’s just an Internet joke.”

HiLARIOUS, Marilyn. Keep ‘em comin’! My sides, they are a’ achin’.

Turns out, there are some Orange County Asshats who actually agree with Davenport, and don’t think it’s a big deal. Tim Whitacre, an Orange County Republican activist in Santa Ana is one such asshat, and actually defended Davenport’s dumbassery:

“Marilyn Davenport is a staunch, ethical Republican lady. There is nothing unethical about this from a party standpoint because it wasn’t sent out to the party at large with any racist statements and it wasn’t signed as a central committee member. As a private individual, she is just real big on Birther stuff. [Which makes her not only racist, but one of the dumbest motherfuckers on the planet. -.ed] One of her passions that drives her is the president’s lack of forthrightness about where he was born. [Again, with the dumbfuckery. -ed.] Marilyn believes that nobody knows where he was born [Only dumb motherfuckers don't know where he was born. ~spoiler alert~ It was Hawaii. -ed.] and so this picture says a thousand words [Indeed, it does -- it says "I'm a dumb fucking racist," two hundred times (or whatever -- I'm bad at math.) -ed.]. She is not a perfect lady, but she is no racist [except for when she is... like, ALL THE TIME. -ed.]. She is a gentle person who would feed you [If you're white, maybe; if you're black, I'd get a white person to taste the food first -.ed], help you, be there for you if you were in trouble. [Can we just agree that "you" refers to "white people"? Yes? Okay then. -ed.] She is known as a pleasant [if by "pleasant" you mean "racist," then sure. -ed.], loving person [if by "loving person" you mean "loving of white persons," then maybe. -ed.], and it kills me that she is being attacked by this non-story knowing her mindset [and one imagines that such racism in Orange County -- with its 2% black population -- is a non-story and that her mindset is stamped "RACIST ASSHOLE" -ed.]

Marilyn “Racist-Ass” Davenport is not sorry for what she has done — not even a little bit. In fact, after the story was published in the OC Weekly, Davenport sent an e-mail to fellow California conservative activists demanding to know the identity of “the coward,” who supplied the reporter (Scott Moxley) with the offensive e-mail.

Coward? Really Marilyn? Would you have preferred that “the coward” punch you in the ovary before sending the email? What the hell does cowardice have to do with anything? Oh right, nothing. The racist mind is addled, indeed.

Of course the backpedaling, “mistakes were made”-style non-apologies began almost immediately. Here’s her super contrite apology email:

“I’m sorry if my email offended anyone. I simply found it amusing regarding the character of Obama and all the questions surrounding his origin of birth. In no way did I even consider the fact he’s half black when I sent out the email. In fact, the thought never entered my mind until one or two other people tried to make this about race. We all know a double standard applies regarding this president. I received plenty of emails about George Bush that I didn’t particularly like yet there was no ‘cry’ in the media about them. One only has to go to Youtube or Google Images to see a plethora or lampooning videos and pictures of Obama, Bush and other politicians. That being said, I will NOT resign my central committee position over this matter that the average person knows and agrees is much to do about nothing. Again, for those select few who might be truly offended by viewing a copy of an email I sent to a select list of friends and acquaintances, unlike the liberal left when they do the same, I offer my sincere apologies to you–the email was not meant for you. For any of my friends or acquaintances who were the recipients of my email and were truly offended, please call me so I may offer a sincere verbal apology to you.”

Here are my peanut gallery comments on that email because you know you love them:

“I’m sorry if my email offended anyone. I simply found it amusing regarding the character of Obama and all the questions surrounding his origin of birth. In no way did I even consider the fact he’s half black when I sent out the email. [Phew! 1/2 black = 50 percent less racism! -ed.] In fact, the thought never entered my mind until one or two other people tried to make this about race. [Ah, yes. Other people made it about race, you see. (Or "tried" to anyway.) The thought never entered my racist-ass mind! -ed.] We all know a double standard applies regarding this president. [We do? Go onnnn. -ed.] I received plenty of emails about George Bush that I didn’t particularly like yet there was no ‘cry’ in the media about them. [Um, you do know that George Bush is white, right? And you do know that there's no history of racism against white folks, right? And you do know that the Black Man as Ape is a racist trope that stretches back hundreds of years? Of course not. You don't know any of these things because you're a dumb fucking racist. -ed.] One only has to go to Youtube or Google Images to see a plethora or lampooning videos and pictures of Obama, Bush and other politicians. [Dude. Did you see those? Her equivalencies! They are, like, totally false, man. -ed.] That being said, I will NOT resign my central committee position [of course you won't, you old bat. -ed.] over this matter that the average person knows and agrees is much to do about nothing. [The average racist thinks it's no big deal. But luckily, the racismometer is not calibrated to reflect what the average racist thinks. -ed.] Again, for those select few ["Select few"? Wow, sounds like some VIP shit. Is there a velvet rope? -ed.] who might be truly offended by viewing a copy of an email I sent to a select list of friends and acquaintances [Yeah! Why are you reading her email, anyway! -ed.], unlike the liberal left when they do the same [actually, the liberal left does do the same, they're just more subtle about it. And they are not the liberal left; they are the P.Left ("progressive" or "professional," your choice. We're taking liberal back! (fuck yeah!). -ed.], I offer my sincere apologies to you–the email was not meant for you. [Oh good. We weren't meant to see it. Carry on! -ed.] For any of my friends or acquaintances who were the recipients of my email and were truly offended [like, ferreals offended -ed.], please call me so I may offer a sincere verbal apology to you. [Can I get some sort of measurement of how offended one must be to qualify as "truly" offended? I'm bad at racist math. -ed.]

This woman is an unrepentant asshole. So much so, in fact, that when local news stations called Davenport for comment, she slammed the phone down and blamed the liberal media. Yes! It’s so refreshing, isn’t it? Ye olde liberal media canard.

WWPD? Blame the lamestream media, obvs.

According to the OC Weekly, one person had the right response: Michael J Schroeder, an OC resident and formerly the chairman of the California Republican Party, said that he was disgusted:

“This is a three strikes situation for Marilyn Davenport. She was a passionate defender of former Newport Beach City Councilman Dick Nichols, who stated that he was voting against putting in more grass at Corona del Mar’s beach because, he said, there were already ‘too many Mexicans on the beach.’ She was also on the wrong side of the fence with the Los Alamitos mayor and his White House watermelon patch picture. Now, she has managed to top both of those incidents by comparing African Americans to monkeys. She has disgraced herself and needs to resign. If she doesn’t, the Republican Party must remove her.”

Why yes, she should be removed! And if she refuses to resign then she should be publicly shamed until she does so.

To that end, let’s send a metric fuck-ton of e-mails to any OC GOP official whose contact information we can find.

I’m going to publish this post and then update it as I find contact information, starting with Chairman Scott Baugh.

Until then, here’s a good place to start. The Republican Party of Orange County’s Facebook page. Time to litter their wall with “Davenport needs to GTFO” messages. Nothing like a good virtual public shaming, don’t you agree?

1 Orange County is also home to one @awienick (whom Angry Black, Inc. loves) and who I’m sure will be happy to help me track down the contact information for these assholes, innit? Of course, because he is a gentleman and a scholar.

  1. :)
I KNEW you would not disappoint!
Can you hear the standing ovation coming from my office here in South Carolina, ’cause it’s long, loud, and proud ( oooh, did I just make a black joke?), and I fucking LOVE you, Lady.
    You rock.
    HARD.

    • thank you denise! you’re too kind.

also, i’m cracking up at the thought of someone being a fan of vomiting furiously.

      • I figure there’s a really tasteless anorexia/bulimia joke in there somewhere, but I won’t go there. I bet Grady Warren would, though.
Mmmm, mmmmm, gotta love the way “niggras” just rolls of his tongue like mint juleps on a Georgia plantation.
Seriously, this post was a complete and total masterpiece. May I quote your “e-mail editorial” over at my place? That was pure genius. You need to write an Angry Black Book.
An Angry Black Book deal would be ultra-hot.

  2. sherifffruitfly

    “metric fuck-ton”?

Aren’t you the one who was bitching about people using internet-isms the other day?

“The average racist thinks it’s no big deal. But luckily, the racismometer is not calibrated to reflect what the average racist thinks.”

wtf. We white folks have been working for decades to skew that damn racisometer! Don’t tell me it’s all been for naught!?

  3. “Cowardice” is when someone has the sense not to identify him/herself when doing something brave. Half of Davenport’s fun would be attacking the cowardly squealer.

The sweet little old white lady (maybe because one just isn’t expecting it from such a sweet little old lady) can be as appalling as any goober redneck one could imagine.

  4. I am sooo tired of this entire racist shit BUT it brings to light what the GOP thinks of us “colored” people. Please excuse me while I puke!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. As I said when I first saw this, she hit every dingdang old excuse in the book when called out on her shiitake. “Some of my best friends are black!” “It’s a joke!” “I’m not racist!” Every Damascus fig deflection move in the book.

Hey, Marilyn, that email is racist. The fact that you are defending it is pathetic, grotesque, and disgusting. Fig fu, Marilyn!

  6. If you have 5:31 to spare and are a fan of vomiting furiously, get a load of this asshole:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=3cLxQ4B23_g#at=160
I just stumbled across that on Dependable Renegade. It’s from October of 2010, but I’d never seen it before today.
Jumpin Jeebus on a pogo stick, WTF???????

    • That Guy With The Ponytail

The racist asshole actually had the nerve to ask “Is that being racist when I ask that question?” in his sorry racist-ass video.

Why yes, yes it is, YOU RACIST ASSHOLE!

    • i started cracking up when he said “niggra race pimps.”

IS THIS FUCKING GUY FOR REAL?

oh man. i really can only laugh — it’s THAT ridiculous.

  7. It says something (not sure what…O_o) when their jokes come off corny and attracts crickets, especially from my viewpoint.

  8. Jasper von Blisters

Marilyn Davenport is one stupid fucking whore… one that needs to step down.

  9. I’m looking forward to Marilyn Davenport’s identical triplet sister wading into the comments section to defend her against these charges. That should be precious.

  10. Any direct contact info for her yet? Someone sent me the email addy of assemblymember.davenport@assembly.ca.gov. Dont know if it’s official but I sent a nice letter anyway. It didn’t bounce back as undeliverable so give it a shot.

  11. “In no way did I even consider the fact he’s half black… In fact, the thought never entered my mind until one or two other people tried to make this about race.”

Along with her equally pathetic thought that ANYONE would actually believe that shit, an assumption of a shared sense of ‘humor’ that enrages me even more than her obvious ignorance of what constitutes a “joke” email amongst general society in this day and age: the implicit racism of the picture is the ONLY reason she thought it was funny, and also the exact same reason the old bitch forwarded it to the “few people” that she thought would find it funny for the same reason.

I personally have no doubt that she had no intent of sharing this with anyone else except her few selected (and presumably) close friends. I also have no doubt that she has less ‘friends’, close or otherwise, than she originally assumed when she sent it; or at the least, one who doesn’t share her fondness for racist humor. Those immediate, defensive responses of hers were ALREADY in her mind at the outset, which is why they were so immediate, and embarrassingly transparent.

Had I seen that same picture w/ Bush’s face instead of Obama’s, most likely I would have laughed. Because I hate the fucker. But her ONLY humorous intent had nothing to do with political differences, or even personal dislike towards another person- it’s simply, and sadly, racism alone. Bitch oughtta own up to it.

  12. I woundn’t worry to much about a WHORE like Marilyn Davenport, she is being Pimp-OUT by Charles and David Koch, they bused them around the USA to protest any policy that the Koch disagree with. You will notice a lots of Republicans names below for which the Koch also owns, and donated huge sum of money to the NOV.2,2010 election. All of the Tea Party is Pimp-out, and you will read why below.

Republican Support – Congressional Republicans have embraced the “tea parties” as ways to oppose the Obama administration. Many leading Republicans, such as Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH), Paul Ryan (R-WI), and some 35 others, will speak at AFP-funded “tea parties.” Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele has moved the RNC to officially support the protests. And Senator David Vitter (R-LA) has introduced legislation formally honoring April 15 as “National Tea Party Day.” “It’s going to be more directed at Obama,” says reporter and commentator Ana Marie Cox. “This is very much, I think, part of the midterm strategy” to win elections in 2010.
Fringe Elements – According to CAP, many “fringe” elements of the conservative movement—including “gun rights militias, secessionists, radical anti-immigrant organizations, and neo-Nazi groups”—are involved in the “tea parties.” [Think Progress, 4/15/2009; Think Progress, 5/29/2009]

May 29, 2009: Anti-Health Care Reform Lobbyist Has Deep GOP Connections, Progressive Web Site Finds

Progressive news and advocacy Web site Think Progress profiles Tim Phillips, the president of Americans for Prosperity (AFP), the conservative Washington lobbying organization that is planning to coordinate anti-tax “tea party” protests (see April 8, 2009 and April 15, 2009) with a summer push against the White House’s health care reform proposals. AFP is largely funded by Koch Industries, the largest private oil corporation in the US; AFP has long advocated positions favorable to the energy and health care industries. AFP also uses the technique of “astroturfing,” the creation of ostensibly citizen-driven “grassroots” advocacy groups that are actually funded and driven by corporate and lobbying interests. AFP’s most recent creation is a “front group” called “Patients United Now” (PUN), a group explicitly designed to thwart health care reform. PUN’s Web site declares, “We are people just like you,” and actively solicits participation and donations from ordinary Americans without revealing its corporate roots. AFP employs close to 70 Republican operatives and former oil industry officials.

  13. I live in Orange County, and yep, I know her type–southern end of the county has tons of her clones. For what it’s worth, she is part of a dying breed. Even lily-white Orange County is getting darker these days (and I’m not talking about orange self-tans). I wonder who were on the recipient list for this email (besides Scott Baugh) Because Davenport thinks you are a racist just like her.

  14. Author! Author! Loved it!

  15. Remember when the GOP stood for balanced budgets, individual freedom and isolationism.
The Republican Party has run up these deficits, we want the federal government to be in our bedrooms and between our women and their doctors, we started two wars instead of ending them like the Korean War and were supposed to stop the Vietnam War the Democrats started. We have lost our way!

So why waste our time with these fools who use their racist rhetoric, like this Marilyn Davenport and Donald Trump with his birther unproven myth, why do we allow our Fox news people to keep talking down our country. Don’t they know we can win the next election with optimism and hope instead of the current rhetoric, that the sky is falling, if we are not careful we will end up like chicken little where no one will listen to us.

    • Ron Paul is a Tea Party candidate which came in HOT & heavy, but the Washington DC establishment soon put out his FIRE, talking about what he was going to do to lower the Deficits. We are talking about the Son?, i hope. Because a lots of Americans’ the father is Crazy. If you notice he is not talking to the Media as much as he did.
Donald Trump is a good PR person and thats what he doing, if you notice he has scare the Repubicans’ establishment a bit they are speaking out against what Trump is saying about President Obama not being a citizen of the U.S.A., and some haters are liking that, and his show rating has gone up, which is all Trump cares about. He will talk about real problems facing this country, plus some on ask him to show his Taxes, and he said no. The Republicans’ has weak presidental candidate for 2012, unless Scott Brown jump in, but he has been seen with the Koch and asking him if he would help him out in the 2012 presidental run, the koch said yes he was on top of that.
I hope you are up on what happing to those Americans’ in Michigan, Rick Snyder and Charles David Koch are trying to take over where Black Americans if its where they live or own this land and build a multi-billion dollars Golf course. I have to read more and i will update you.
If you want to know why this country is broke, read about G.W.B., and the Firms contracted to Iraq and Afghan., Bush contract the Firms that contribute to his 2004 campiagn, Haillburton, Blackwater, KBR, and other who misplace and stole billions and now the Taxpayers are paying this money back and will be paying for a long time. There is a book
witten by Allison Stranger ” One Nation Under Contract” Oursourcing of American Power of Future Foreign Policy. All you have to do is search for a ” list of firms contract to Iraq and Afghan. You will fine all kinds of sites with information, such as WIKIPEDIA, corpwatchdoj.org and publishingclearinghousing. That will tell you what the Republicans’ have not told Americans’. I will email you more information.

    What Conservatives Really Want!!

You are here: Home » Political Mind » What Conservatives Really Want
    What Conservatives Really Want
by George Lakoff on February 19, 2011 in Political Mind
—Dedicated to the peaceful protestors in Wisconsin, February 19, 2011
The central issue in our political life is not being discussed. At stake is the
    moral basis of American democracy.
The individual issues are all too real: assaults on unions, public employees,
women’s rights, immigrants, the environment, health care, voting rights, food
safety, pensions, prenatal care, science, public broadcasting, and on and on.
Budget deficits are a ruse, as we’ve seen in Wisconsin, where the Governor
turned a surplus into a deficit by providing corporate tax breaks, and then used
the deficit as a ploy to break the unions, not just in Wisconsin, but seeking to
be the first domino in a nationwide conservative movement.
Deficits can be addressed by raising revenue, plugging tax loopholes, putting
people to work, and developing the economy long-term in all the ways the
President has discussed. But deficits are not what really matters to
    conservatives.
Conservatives really want to change the basis of American life, to make America
run according to the conservative moral worldview in all areas of life.
In the 2008 campaign, candidate Obama accurately described the basis of American
democracy: Empathy — citizens caring for each other, both social and personal
responsibility—acting on that care, and an ethic of excellence. From these, our
freedoms and our way of life follow, as does the role of government: to protect
and empower everyone equally. Protection includes safety, health, the
environment, pensions and empowerment starts with education and infrastructure.
No one can be free without these, and without a commitment to care and act on
that care by one’s fellow citizens.
The conservative worldview rejects all of that.
Conservatives believe in individual responsibility alone, not social
responsibility. They don’t think government should help its citizens. That is,
they don’t think citizens should help each other. The part of government they
want to cut is not the military (we have 174 bases around the world), not
government subsidies to corporations, not the aspect of government that fits
their worldview. They want to cut the part that helps people. Why? Because that
    violates individual responsibility.
But where does that view of individual responsibility alone come from?
The way to understand the conservative moral system is to consider a strict
father family. The father is The Decider, the ultimate moral authority in the
family. His authority must not be challenged. His job is to protect the family,
to support the family (by winning competitions in the marketplace), and to teach
his kids right from wrong by disciplining them physically when they do wrong.
The use of force is necessary and required. Only then will children develop the
internal discipline to become moral beings. And only with such discipline will
they be able to prosper. And what of people who are not prosperous? They don’t
have discipline, and without discipline they cannot be moral, so they deserve
their poverty. The good people are hence the prosperous people. Helping others
takes away their discipline, and hence makes them both unable to prosper on
    their own and function morally.
The market itself is seen in this way. The slogan, “Let the market decide”
assumes the market itself is The Decider. The market is seen as both natural
(since it is assumed that people naturally seek their self-interest) and moral
(if everyone seeks their own profit, the profit of all will be maximized by the
invisible hand). As the ultimate moral authority, there should be no power
higher than the market that might go against market values. Thus the government
can spend money to protect the market and promote market values, but should not
rule over it either through (1) regulation, (2) taxation, (3) unions and worker
rights, (4) environmental protection or food safety laws, and (5) tort cases.
Moreover, government should not do public service. The market has service
industries for that. Thus, it would be wrong for the government to provide
health care, education, public broadcasting, public parks, and so on. The very
idea of these things is at odds with the conservative moral system. No one
should be paying for anyone else. It is individual responsibility in all arenas.
Taxation is thus seen as taking money away from those who have earned it and
giving it to people who don’t deserve it. Taxation cannot be seen as providing
the necessities of life, a civilized society, and as necessary for business to
    prosper.
In conservative family life, the strict father rules. Fathers and husbands
should have control over reproduction; hence, parental and spousal notification
laws and opposition to abortion. In conservative religion, God is seen as the
strict father, the Lord, who rewards and punishes according to individual
responsibility in following his Biblical word.
Above all, the authority of conservatism itself must be maintained. The country
should be ruled by conservative values, and progressive values are seen as evil.
Science should NOT have authority over the market, and so the science of global
warming and evolution must be denied. Facts that are inconsistent with the
authority of conservatism must be ignored or denied or explained away. To
protect and extend conservative values themselves, the devil’s own means can be
used against conservatism’s immoral enemies, whether lies, intimidation,
torture, or even death, say, for women’s doctors.
Freedom is defined as being your own strict father — with individual not social
responsibility, and without any government authority telling you what you can
and cannot do. To defend that freedom as an individual, you will of course need
    a gun.
This is the America that conservatives really want. Budget deficits are
convenient ruses for destroying American democracy and replacing it with
conservative rule in all areas of life.
What is saddest of all is to see Democrats helping them.
Democrats help radical conservatives by accepting the deficit frame and arguing
about what to cut. Even arguing against specific “cuts” is working within the
conservative frame. What is the alternative? Pointing out what conservatives
really want. Point out that there is plenty of money in America, and in
Wisconsin. It is at the top. The disparity in financial assets is un-American —
the top one percent has more financial assets than the bottom 95 percent. Middle
class wages have been flat for 30 years, while the wealth has floated to the
top. This fits the conservative way of life, but not the American way of life.
Democrats help conservatives by not shouting out loud over and over that it was
conservative values that caused the global economic collapse: lack of regulation
    and a greed-is-good ethic.
Democrats also help conservatives by what a friend has called Democratic
Communication Disorder. Republican conservatives have constructed a vast and
effective communication system, with think tanks, framing experts, training
institutes, a system of trained speakers, vast holdings of media, and booking
agents. Eighty percent of the talking heads on tv are conservatives. Talk
matters because language heard over and over changes brains. Democrats have not
built the communication system they need, and many are relatively clueless about
how to frame their deepest values and complex truths.
And Democrats help conservatives when they function as policy wonks — talking
policy without communicating the moral values behind the policies. They help
conservatives when they neglect to remind us that pensions are deferred payments
for work done. “Benefits” are pay for work, not a handout. Pensions and benefits
are arranged by contract. If there is not enough money for them, it is because
the contracted funds have been taken by conservative officials and given to
wealthy people and corporations instead of to the people who have earned them.
Democrats help conservatives when they use conservative words like
“entitlements” instead of “earnings” and speak of government as providing
    “services” instead of “necessities.”
    Is there hope?
I see it in Wisconsin, where tens of thousands citizens see through the
conservative frames and are willing to flood the streets of their capital to
stand up for their rights. They understand that democracy is about citizens
uniting to take care of each other, about social responsibility as well as
individual responsibility, and about work — not just for your own profit, but to
help create a civilized society. They appreciate their teachers, nurses,
firemen, police, and other public servants. They are flooding the streets to
demand real democracy — the democracy of caring, of social responsibility, and
of excellence, where prosperity is to be shared by those who work and those who
    serve.

    • That Guy With The Ponytail

“Democrats have not built the communication system they need, and many are relatively clueless about how to frame their deepest values and complex truths.”

Yes. This. A thousand times this.
