Re “Donald Trump Gets Weirder,” by Gail Collins (column, April 2):

Even before Gail Collins was with the New York Times, she has written nasty and derogatory articles about me. Actually, I have great respect for Ms. Collins in that she has survived so long with so little talent. Her storytelling ability and word usage (coming from me, who has written many bestsellers), is not at a very high level. More importantly, her facts are wrong!

As far as her comments on the so-called “birther” issue, I don’t need Ms. Collins’s advice. There is a very large segment of our society who believe that Barack Obama, indeed, was not born in the United States. His grandmother from Kenya stated, on tape, that he was born in Kenya and she was there to watch the birth. His family in Honolulu is fighting over which hospital in Hawaii he was born in-they just don’t know.

He has not been able to produce a “birth certificate” but merely a totally unsigned “certificate of live birth”-which is totally different and of very little significance. Unlike a birth certificate, a certificate of live birth is very easy to obtain. Equally of importance, there are no records in Hawaii that a Barack Hussein Obama was born there-no bills, no doctors names, no nurses names, no registrations, no payments, etc. As far as the two notices placed in newspapers, many things could have happened, but some feel the grandparents put an ad in order to show that he was a citizen of the U.S. with all of the benefits thereto. Everybody, after all, and especially then, wanted to be a United States citizen.

The term used by Ms. Collins-“birther”-is very derogatory and is meant in a derogatory way. Had this been George Bush or almost any other President or Presidential aspirant, they would never have been allowed to attain office, or would have been thrown out of office very quickly.

For some reason, the press protects President Obama beyond anything or anyone I have ever seen. What they don’t realize is that if he was not born in the United States, they would have uncovered the greatest “scam” in the history of our country. In other words, they would become the hottest writer since Watergate, or beyond.

Open your eyes, Gail, there’s at least a good chance that Barack Hussein Obama has made mincemeat out of our great and cherished Constitution!

Although Trump and I have had our differences in the past, I never felt it was personal. In fact, until now, I have refrained from noting that I once got an aggrieved message from him in which he misspelled the word “too.”

  1. Is this birtherism hurting the President or helping? There has to be some backlash to it. Is it causing liberals to rally? Is it driving moderates away from the GOP? It may be one monumental distraction to keep us from telling the truth about what the right is trying to do to us, up the ass. If it is a shiny object to distract us, we have to stay focused on the real important issues. If it is hurting, we need to keep beating it down. I’m not sure, myself. Help me people, what do you wise commenters think?

  5. Here is my take on this: I think we all know Trump makes the perfect Republican and I applaud his efforts to screw with his newly adopted party. We all know he in this for the publicity, I don’t think he has any intention of running for office. He’ll blame the press eventually, when he announces publicly that he won’t be running. His reasons will include Gail Collins is mean, the press in general is mean, because the press, and Gail Collins hate him, and he’ll announce the next season of his show! Hahhahaha, that is hilariously funny. Think about this, he has a whole new audience for his show, the birther audience! Woohoo. Oddly enough it is probably enough to keep that stupid show on the air for one more year. I guess. These wingers are easy to dupe and that The Donald knows a good mark when he sees one or in this case marks….and his con is off and going. In the meantime I wonder if he is preparing for the debate?

  8. Some question i’d LOVE for them to ask these birther freaks:

    1. Where in the constitution does it say that a President must show papers proving where he was born?

    This is what it says:

    No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

    All it says is 1. Born in the U.S.A. and be 35 years of age. It doesn’t say that he has to take any extraordinary steps to prove it. And up until the election of PBO the guy’s word has always been enough (funny that). But it’s not like going to the DMV. You don’t need to show your birth certificate and Social security card to run for President. I can’t be sure, but my guess is Abraham Lincoln and George Washingtn didn’t have a birth certificate either.

    In other words, the burden of proof is on you. You don’t think that the certificate of live birth is good enough? Touch shit. Even if it isn’t, he doesn’t NEED a good birth certificate to be president. He just needs to be born here. The burden of proof to prove that he wasn’t is on YOU to prove that he wasn’t, not on him to prove that he was.

    2. Ok, so let’s say you prove beyond all doubt that he was born in Kenya, what do you think happens then? Even if the candidate was put on the ballot because of an absurdly elaborate fraud committed by his mother 47 years ago, the fact is that he WAS on the ballot and he did get elected. Even if the candidate was “illegal” the election was perfectly legal. Fifty seven million people decided they want Barack Obama to be President, his mothers fraud doesn’t get to undo that.

    If they can prove their allegations, this does NOT MAKE JOHN MCCAINE PRESIDENT! It doesn’t even make Joe Biden President. The parts of the Constitution they won’t read makes it very clear how to remove a President from office:

    The House of Representatives shall chuse their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment.

    The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments. When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.

    So even if they go to court and prove beyond all doubt all their allegations all the court has the power to do is say: “bummer wish we knew that before we elected him, NEXT CASE!” The court certainly has no power to remove a sitting President from office. ONLY the House of Representatives does along with 2/3rd of the Senate.

    So it goes to trial in the House where are the high crimes and misdemeanors? Unless they’re arguing that Obama was a particularly diabolical new-born it’s safe to say that if their was a crime it was perpetrated by the mother and grand parents, all of which are now dead. I doubt if even THIS Congress would convict him. And of course getting 2/3rd of the Senate is a non-starter.

    So even if they find the proof they want, they won’t get what they want, removal from office, so why are they doing this? Oh, cause they’re racist fucks.

  9. I’m so glad Gail Collins gave Trump the birther a good smackdown. But I’m also happy that Gail told Maddow last week to just wait once people know what the GOP is proposing in their Path to Poverty for America, people will wake up and reject their bullshit.

    And “Mau Mau” Huckafuck blows whichever bagger gives him the most money. People would have to be an absolute fool to give Trump, of all people, money towards his “waiting to see” presidential run which means only one thing, Trump ain’t making the money.

    To be honest, I’m so looking forward to the upcoming GOP debates, I can’t wait.
