Hello, Bitchez

NOT ME

not me (Margaret Cho)

Hiya.  I’m asiangrrlMN.  I met ABL over at BJ right before she was made a front-pager and heads started ‘asploding because she’s black, a woman, and she has the audacity to question conventional wisdom.  I have a blog, The World According to MEH,  that is closed now.  I have lots of archives, though, so feel free to browse.   I wrote about everything from politics to my cats, to the state of my navel, oh, and Alan Rickman.  I shut it down for a variety of reasons, and I thought about starting a political blog of my own.  In fact, it’s the reason I wanted to blog in the first place.  It grated my flat ass that Michelle Malkin was the only prominent Asian American female pundit because she’s batshitcrazy.  I hated the fact that the right picks up tokens who are even more batshitcrazy than the average white male rightwinger or more incompetent (Michael Steele.  Am I the only one taking malicious pleasure in watching him undercut his party by acting up and not stepping down because he knows he has them by the short hairs?), and Michelle Malkin is my personal nemesis.

But, breaking news.  Senate has passed the repeal of DADT 65-31.  I was elated when it got enough votes so that it could actually be voted on (gotta love the Senate’s arcane way of operating).  Honestly, I thought it was dead in the water because the Republicans were threatening to tank START if Senate Majority Leader Reid even thought about bringing up the DADT repeal bill over the weekend, let alone vote on it.   So, the fact it passed cloture was a big surprise.  I had read the vote was going to be tomorrow, but when I came back from tai chi, I saw that the repeal had passed.  I have no snark at this time. Just elation and a big sigh of relief that the travesty known as DADT is now a bitter memory.  Here is a pretty good list of people to thank from Steve Benen at WaMo.

Back to me.  I enjoy long walks in the dark, moonlit dinners, and–oh, sorry.  I thought I was writing my personal ad for a moment there.

I was a performer in another life, both in theatre (said in a posh British accent) and solo.  I realized that I enjoyed doing performance art because I could write, direct, stage, and costume the whole thing as well as act in it.  Plus, I don’t do ingenue very well, and I was getting tired of playing a mother/grandmother when I was only in my early twenties.  I am a writer.  I do freelance editing for real work (and some other odds and ends, but if I tell you, I would have to kill you), and I write fiction in my spare time.  Mostly mystery novels, but I also write what is known as contemporary fiction and short stories.  In the past, I have played the cello, softball, volleyball, danced (tap, ballet, jazz), amongst other activities.  I was the jill of all trades and master of none.

Now, I am a cranky oldish lady yelling at the kids to get off my lawn.   Oh, back to why I never started a political blog.  I realized it’s really hard work to be a political blogger, and you have to have a pretty thick skin in order to deal with trolls and such.  I’m lazy by nature, and I didn’t want to put in the effort of politically blogging every day.  And, despite my brazen hussy exterior, I am really a delicate flower wilting on the inside.  Shut up.  I am.  Bastards.

I have opinions.  I have many of them.  I am grateful to ABL for allowing me to tromp all over her house and to bust shit up.  I promised her I would stay out of the liquor cabinet, and that’s not a problem as I am allergic to alcohol.  I also said I would try to curb the number of times I say “fuck”, but I have a hunch that will be more difficult for me to do.  I like the word “fuck”.  A lot.  Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome in my first post (yeah I posted a real entry before posting my intro entry.  So sue me).  I think I’m going to like it here.

  1. Hello you! Look, we’re here at the cool kids’ table!

I have a dream that ABL’s invitation to the two of us will lead to our shared, three-way world domination and that one day someone will make a movie about three moron-crushing bloggeristas — we’ll be just like Charlie’s Angels, only more ethnic. And with carpal tunnel syndrome.

  2. Hi asiangrrl! So glad you are going to be posting here – just one more reason to keep checking in!

  3. ee, I’ve never been cool, so I’m a bit nervous. And, I’m in for a multiculti Charlie’s Angels as long as there is latex and leather involved. We’re going to kick some major ass.

marindenver, thanks! I’m loving it already.

  4. WoooHooo! I am stoked. Three bright, outspoken women. This is very cool and it looks like I got here just in time to watch you all take over.

  5. I was turned on to this site about a month ago but I’ve read plenty of your posts on TNC. Nice to see you and I look forward to reading you.

  6. ABL’s blog was already a must read for me and now that it has 66% more Snark (for added Flava) it is even better.
Congratulations to both new contributors. I’m looking forward to some good stuff.

  7. Thou art one pretty lady, Asiangrll :-)

  8. Alan Rickman. Mmmmmmmm!

(Oh, and I’m happy to be reading you! And seeing your lovely visage!)

  9. Damn. My photo tag got all messed up. That’s Margaret Cho–I want to be her when I grow up.

Kewalo, thanks. I am stoked to have such awesome readers.

BJonthegrid, I thoroughly appreciate your commentary over at TNC’s place. Welcome!

Doc Spender, I’ll do my best to measure up!

General Stuck! Good to see you here. That’s not me, though.

Kerry, hands off Alan. He is MINE! And, that’s not actually me. I may post a real pic at some point. High five!

  10. You totally rock AG! I love your commentary at BJ. Nice to see you here as well.

  11. Oh, and you’re a brilliant writer too. Your blog is fascinating.

  12. Ha! I didn’t see the caption — I was going to say that you bear an uncanny resemblance to Margaret Cho. Doh!

  13. chaseyourtail, thanks! Welcome. I’m glad some of my fellow BJers read ABL, too. Crack open your favorite beverage and enjoy!

Kerry Reid, that’s ‘coz I did a sneaky Ninja (redundant, I think) edit and put it back in when it disappeared on me!

  14. “…I am really a delicate flower wilting on the inside.”

I have never read a description of the Dionaea muscipula that used the word “delicate”.

    “Shut up.”

    Not happening.

    “I am.”

Okay, okay…I’ll buy it. But not without reservations. Delmonico’s, Thursday at 8. And wear something…

    “Bastards.”

    [raises hand]

    Beau travails, ma chérie. ;^D

    • Hiya, Andy K. I had to look up the Latin, and boy, are you in trouble now. How dare you question my delicateness? Heh. Good to see you in these here parts. Look forward to seeing more of your comments.

  15. You have me rolling in the aisles, lovely AG, and I can’t wait to follow you and everyone else involved in this crazy fabulous blog! Thrilled you found your outlet and am going to be adding this to my favorite blogroll on my own blog. Now, let the good times roll, honey! Go, girls!
