No, no, no. Of *course* Fox News isn't trying to scare white folks.

What would make you say that?

At the end of Jann Wenner’s Rolling Stone article about Obama — which you should read if you have not already (unless you’re prone to unhinged hissy fits about how “Obama huwt my feewings” and want to fuck everything up for the rest of us because “but mooooom!!! Obama huwt my feeeeeeewings!!!!!11“)  — Obama talks about his musical preferences: Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones, old R&B, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and opera.

As for hip-hop, Obama has mostly listened to Jay-Z, but he’s thrown a little Nas and L’il Wayne in the mix as of late because his aide, Reggie Love — really!  his name is Reggie Love!! — is helping him improve his “rap palate.”1

So guess how Fox Nation2 portrayed Obama’s musical tastes?

Well, like this, obvs:

The image was taken down because Fox News is a spineless asshat.

Really Fox?  Re-heally?

Nas really got under your skin when he called you out during the 2008 election for your racist attacks against black people, including the Obamas, didn’t he?

About four hours after the announcement that his controversial, politically charged ninth album was number one in the country, Nas was on a small podium in front of Fox News headquarters in New York City protesting what he sees as racist attacks against Black Americans and presidential candidate Barack Obama. In a brief prepared statement, the multi-platinum rapper pointed out examples of what he and ColorOfChange see as a long racist smear campaign against the Obama family: The onscreen graphic that referred to Michelle Obama as the Senator’s “baby mama”; Bill O’Reilly casually using the phrase “lynching party” to refer to attacks on the Senator’s wife; referencing to the couple’s infamous fist thump as a “terrorist fist jab.” Said Nas, “Fox poisons this country every time they air racist propaganda and try to call it news. This should outrage every American that Fox uses hateful language to talk about the person that may be the first black president.”

The rapper stood next to 19 neatly stacked cardboard boxes, with the number 620,127 taped to the side of each one — over 600,000 signatures gathered by ColorOfChange demanding that network president Roger Ailes “find a solution to address racial stereotyping and hate-mongering before it hits the airwaves.” Fox rejected the petitions, but Brave New Films says that Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report will accept them instead.

And accept the petition is exactly what Stephen Colbert did:

As for Lil Wayne? Hell, Katie Couric likes Lil Wayne! Just watch her interview with him. She’s all giggly and shit!

Seriously, watch her giggle at the 30 second marker in this video, and then keep watching as Katie says “you also, reportedly like your weed,” and Lil Wayne: “I will stand up for marijuana any day.”

Um, so… anyway…

I don’t really remember what the point of this post was…

Oh yeah.  Fuck you, Fox News.

Also?

1 It is virtually impossible to be scared by someone who says “rap palate.”  C’mon, son!  Then again, I bet most Fox News watchers don’t know what the word “palate” means.

2 Fox News’ response?  That Fox Nation and Fox News are “very much separate.”  Except when Fox News and Fox Nation are very much inseparable.

  1. Man i Feel ya on this!! Well Done LOVE!!!

  2. Yeah, we all be crazy, but goddam we’re not all stupid. Nice post, Faux has really pissed me off now, they’ve made it embarrassing to be white. Again.

  3. It just drives me up the wall, how obvious it is that Fox News peddles Fear of a Black Planet 24/7… but try to point that out to any of its devoted viewers, and you get, “DEMOCRATS ARE THE REAL RACISTS!!!!”

Ask them why and you get the equivalent of, “SHUT UP, THAT’S WHY!”

Which wouldn’t be quite so awful, except that these deliberately ignorant people get to vote.

  4. It’s a deliberate, persistent strategy that Faux News pursues 24/7. Rachel Maddow did an epic take-down of the Fox “Scare White People” business model here:

  5. What they are really scared of is that Obama likes Coltrane and opera. That is some “intellectual” shit. Sarah palin has never heard of Coltrane and thinks only “the coastal elites” like that opera stuff. Also, Stevie Wonder is so radical and very scary.

  6. Hey, we know what “palate” means. It’s the guy that flys the plane.

  7. Oh no. Oh no, no, no. Wait. What? I’ve got Jay-Z and Nas (and The Roots and Jurassic 5 and Dre, and etc…) on my iPod. What fucking color am I? Shit! Mom? Mooommmmmmm???!!!

  8. Dude, I’m white (but only on the outside and from the waist up,) and white people scare the shit out of me. I forgot where I was going with this, but screw Fox News. They scare me more than anything in the world, except for maybe falling into a pit of cobras and scorpions or being locked in a room and forced to watch Tyler Perry movies over and over. Or maybe being locked in a room full of cobras and scorpions and being forced to watch Tyler Perry movies.

    What?! NOBODY likes Tyler Perry.

The only thing that scares this white boy about Obama is his affinity for Bankstas, not Gangstas.

And now for a wet blanket moment…

Last week the Republicans were all over Fox challenging the Democrats to a stand up fight on the house floor over the Bush tax cuts. Now that is a hanging curve ball right in the Progressive wheel house, but the Dems don’t even take a cut. Now I wonder why Maddow is not all over THAT? Hmmmm… maybe because corporations advertise on MSNBC just like they do on Fox? The Repubs want to fight over tax cuts for the rich… they say they want to defend the bullshit about how “rich people create jobs” and they have no takers? Seriously????

Progressives aren’t simply fighting the wrong battles. We aren’t even showing up at the arena.

    I’m just sayin….

    End of wet blanket moment.

    • She actually has done bits about the stupidity of not bringing the tax cuts to a vote. Pretty much every left-leaning pundit has.

i agree with you about the “banksters” (although i really hate that word). i also agree with you that the democrats are idiots.

and i also agree that (some) progressives are fighting the wrong battles.

As funny as that headline is, I’d really like to have read the “CSI smears Tea Parties” story myself… LOL!

In all seriousness, I am astonished that Fox News is allowed to continue to portray itself as a legitimate news source. Those of us who are reasoning, intelligent grown folks have known for a long time that it isn’t, but with the revelation of exactly how much money Murdoch and Fox have donated to the Republican Party, I really don’t understand how they can legally continue to be considered a legitimate news source.

As a side note, I was watching Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns for a few minutes tonight. Why is every single thing he releases “Tyler Perry’s…”? Is he afraid someone is going to steal his characters? Or his slightly rehashed every single time ideas? I have to admit I thought Diary of a Mad Black Woman was great. After that, not so much. And now I feel like “Tyler Perry” should be a drinking game or something.

  11. So, on a random side note, does anyone else think it’s weird that they’d post some fear based bullshit about gangsta rap, but then have a sidebar item about a 7 year old making a name for himself through rap? Anyone?

Also…Andy Griffith has an approval rating? Um…why?

  12. Sometimes I hate White people* SO MUCH! (I assume they’re all white at Fox right? I mean the people in charge, not whoever they’re paying to stand at the front so they don’t look racist)

And it’s not even Fox who are the worst, it’s the fucktards who read this shit and get scared. Fuck them. Fuck them all.

*I’m allowed to say this, some of my best friends are white, y’know, and me.

  13. So, after all this hand-wringing an’ shit, just where is the “Whitey Tape”?
