I’m going to go throw up.
Last week I wrote about a slave party1 that Glenn McConnell and a bunch of Southern Republicans hosted (and that a bunch of Republican politicians attended). The party was called “A Southern Experience.”

The brochure for the party advertised a Live Auction. When I saw the picture and saw that there was a Live Auction, I jumped to a conclusion, and I was called “a fucking idiot” for doing so:
I’m all for making fun of conservatives, but when us liberals accuse them of things they didn’t do, it makes us look stupid. It also makes this poster specifically look incredibly racist in stating that some conservatives just up and dressed up black people like dolls, as if they had no say in the matter.
There was an auction at the event you link to, but it was, you know, an auction. For items, not a “mock auction of slaves.” Seriously, how fucking stupid are this poster and the one at Angry Black Chronicles to not understand that a LIVE AUCTION is not an auction of live people, but an auction where people bid out loud as opposed to a SILENT AUCTION (which, if they called a dead auction, I’m sure you would think that was an auction for organs or zombies or something, fucking idiots).
There were African Americans at the event, but they were there to promote Gullah culture (something I had no idea about until I read about this picture, so they have certainly been more than successful).
I responded as follows:
Oh, my bad. How silly of me (and of one of the Wonkette writers which I referenced) to see white folks dressed up in their Confederate finest, while the two (and only two, from what I can see from the photos posted on FitsNews) black people are dressed like slaves to draw a faulty conclusion from an advertised “live auction” at an event dubbed “A Southern Experience.”
An idiot? Maybe. A fucking idiot? Quit harshing my mellow.
How much were those black people paid, anyway? Do you know? You want to talk about the larger issue, which is why the hell such an event even took place at all? Or do you just want to feel awesome and superior?
And yeah, the two black people (whom I quoted, actually) who claim to have been educating people clearly did a great job because you went and googled Gullah after these asshats had to explain themselves. That makes sense. And by that, I mean it makes no sense at all.
That said, as soon as my server stops being a jerk, I’ll update the post after investigating further, and maybe the event will be downgraded from “racist as fuck” to just “racist.”

Then, today I found a link to an article entitled “Get That Worthless Nigger Out of the White House” on a friend’s Facebook wall and I made the unfortunate mistake of reading it and the comments.
Racism is dead, huh? Nope. It just went underground for a while and now is bubbling to the surface. And all the fuckwits with their stupid signs are being told to stop dressing like fuckwits and to leave their racist fucking signs at home (Glenn Beck is our leeaaaaaderrrrrr!!!!).

Do you want to waste time arguing about homosexual agendas and how everyone in the military will be wearing pink army suits if you let gays in? Or do you want to let every man or woman serve in the military if they want to. Do you want to serve? I know I don’t. So send Jane the Bull-dyke in my stead. I don’t give a fuck. She likes vagina? So what. Half the country does too.
Yes, the Democrats are weak and cowardly and stupid; they couldn’t find their way out of Newt Gingrich’s ass if they were given miner’s caps and a map. But liberals? If you don’t support Democrats, or if you’re not actively trying to find a viable Progressive candidate to challenge these motherfuckers — if you’re just sitting online in a comments section whining about how Obama borrowed your iPod and never returned it — then you can go jump up your own ass.
If you’re out there thinking everything is fine, and racism is dead, and we got a black Prezinint2 and it’s only the fringe that are crazy and the fringe is so miniscule that it doesn’t matter, and your vote doesn’t count anyway, then go jump up your own ass because you don’t know what the fuck is going on in this country right now and you’re too lazy/entitled/above it all to figure it out.

And to you progressives out there who are aligning yourselves with the Tea Party? This is what the Tea Party represents. Maybe not all of them, but a lot of them. And if you align yourselves with them, then you’re as much of an asshole as the mouth-breather who wrote this post.

Thank you. You’re right. I live in the deep south, so this isn’t news to me, but maybe it is to people who don’t live here. Racism is very real, and the Obama administration has brought the very real prejudices that a lot of older Southern Americans (and in some cases, not so much older) still harbor back to the surface in very ugly ways. It used to be something that might get vaguely referred to or something that wasn’t said. It’s said now. And the fact that so many people who aren’t in the South don’t seem to get it, don’t seem to understand that it’s FUCKING SCARY out here, really blows my mind. I have a 3 year old son and the world that these assholes are trying to bring back scares the shit out of my for his future. And to hear other progressives whine about not voting to teach people a lesson, because Obama hasn’t stood strong enough, because Democrats have backed down, what-fucking-ever reason you have, is utter stupidity. My mom has a phrase – throwing the baby out with the bath water. It’s what you’re doing. So it hasn’t gone exactly the way you want it to. You’re going to just quit? You’re going to take your ball and go home now, let them have the playground? Fine, but I hope you don’t want any gay kids or any black kids or any Mexican kids or who the hell knows, maybe any handicapped kids or poor kids or overweight kids, on that playground. Because it’s where they’re headed. The white folks is pissed ya’ll. And if you sit back and let them back into the driver’s seat right now, there’s no telling where they’re going to take you.

I’ve just found your blog. I absolutely love it, but haven’t commented before because I’m reading mostly _really_ old stuff right now. There’s been so much I wanted to say but commenting on year old entries seems lame. I do want to say that I say get bent all the time. LOL! That blog post has been around for a year, and we’re just now hearing about it? Guess people are just now getting the “courage” to show just how racist they are. That means they are SCARED! They can’t take the time to hide their racism any more. They need to get the word out to fellow racists that they have to get their country back!
I am a 46 year old, white female, and I can honestly say that I have never seen so many supposed adults act like such childish, racist pigs. It sickens me. It appalls me. I am nearly speechless that human beings can hate other human beings so much. I thought that once we got through the election and got on to business some of this crap would settle down, but now it is ramping up again. Once again, I am afraid for our President. I am afraid that he won’t make it out of the White House alive.
Usually, when I vote, I take the time to look at both candidates to make sure the person I am voting for has the same values and wants the same things for our country that I do. Now, however, I feel like I need to just vote straight Democrat — because there is no telling what you’ll get if you vote Republican. That is NOT the way our system should work. WTF is wrong with people?
I know. It is driving me insane. We’re letting the media (lamestream or not) guide the discussion and many who are sick of the bullshit have just tuned out and shutdown. Those are the people that need to wake up and do something because if they don’t, a million Stepford Christine O’Donnells are going to get elected because the GOP machine has made her palatable to people who weren’t paying attention before the GOP shined her up. Leaving aside the whole auction thing, the whole event was an exercise in privilege. I mean who wants to spend money to attend an historically accurate antebellum-themed event? Whitey, that is who. Certainly not anyone who picked cotton or built a railroad. Can I invoke Nazis now? Yeah, it is sort of how having a Nazi-heyday party would piss off Jews. Or a Khmer Rouge-athon would piss off people who wear glasses.

I am certainly not impressed with the picture. I happened on this site by accident. Read your blog and can see all your points of view. I just would like to make a point. The uniform the white guy in the picture is wearing is a Union uniform, meaning yankee. The picture does tell some story, I can’t believe people are so ignorant to set themselves up for this kind of ridicule. More over, I can’t believe black Americans would let themselves look like tools. Incredible.
